What kind of mentality do you people bring here? Just because Floyd is FAVORED to win, he shouldn't fight Cotto? Wow..
That's one line. The other is "after he beats Cotto you'll tell us there's another challenger." As if Floyd's reign should bring peace to the boxing world. Contenders should cease climbing the ranks so that we can pause in recognition of the unchallengeable champion.

Ha, I guess we are not.

Now it's an excuse will pop up after Floyd wins.

****, I think Floyd will win. It would be nice for him to take a fight with the best.

      Why can't he do that?

      That's what I am asking.

      And DLH ain't the best....

There's a list of welter champs there I'd be happy to see him fight.

Trust me that perception will fade after decades once he is old, retired and his name is locked into ATG history books. And all people will look to judge him by is his record and if there are any great fighters on his record.

Like Leonard with Duran, Hearns and Hagler.

Does Cotto represent that type of opponent for Floyd? Because Floyd will go down as one of the all-time greats either way. His legacy is already locked.

That's why Mayweather should retire after Cotto.

edit: Was supposed to be after Kayjay's post.

The pure Floyd hate on these forums is clear and obvious to any human eye. So you can understand why some of us are fighting in Floyd's favor unstead of against him.

Well there is no better counterpoint than "that's not it". Really got me with that one, sweetheart.

You're too simpleminded with you conclusions that you're not on my radar.

That's all I needed to say.

Why can't Floyd just fight a welter champ? Last I checked Sugar Ray Leonard wasn't available.

That's all I am asking. And I think he will win. Just want to see him do it.

                    To Answer my own question:

It is a legacy enhancing fight in the sense that Floyd would have beaten "the best guys" in five (at worst, four) weight classes.

People have short memories, and the haters always fall back on "who has he beaten at 147?"

                    130: Chicanito, Corrales, etc
                    135: Castillo
                    140: Hatton
                    147: Cotto (tbd)
                    154: Delahoya

Yes, I know. The Hatton fight was at 147. But , in reality, it was two 140 guys going at it.

An aging Muhammad Ali beat Foreman in 1974, Frazier in 1975, and Norton in 1976. He fought lesser contenders in between. At the time did he get all the credit he deserved? Probably not. But history looks very kindly on him, because he was a fighting champion. I understand that there won't be a title defense once a month like with Joe Louis anymore. But that doesn't mean we can't have world champions that act like world champions again.
