I respect Calzaghe but he needs.......

I respect Calzaghe but the man needs to stop saying he has speed. That his speed is his main tool. Dont get me wrong, the man throws somewhere in the neighborhood of 1,000 punches per fight but that doesn't mean your fast. Leonard was fast. Judah is fast. Mayweather is fast. Whitaker was fast. For exmaple, Paul Williams is another fighter that has a high workrate, but he is in no way a fast puncher. And I am not comparing Calzaghe to Williams accomplishments-wise so don't go all crazy one me. But like I was saying, I honestly don't believe Joe has speed, he says he does but I honestly don't believe he does. And this is not a thread to down Joe because he is a great fighter but he neeeds to stop making flase claims, just imagine Floyd came out of the Hatton fight saying he was a strong puncher.

There is a difference between speed and workrate. Joe C has some speed but he ain't the fastest fighter.

Oh I agree, he has a higher than average speed but he is not a 'fast' fighter in the likes of a prime Roy Jones or Ray Leonard in any means.

There are very few fighters with the handspeed of Roy Jones, Jr. The guy was from a different planet with that ****. But Calzaghe's got very good handspeed, especially in combinations, when he can vary the angles repeatedly.

Same point I was makin. Speed and workrate compliment each other to a degree cuz 3 minutes is a short amount of time to get off 100 punches, so a fighter who does that obviously ain't a slowpoke.

I think he is fast. Not entirely different from Leonard who punched fast in flashy combinations and slower when putting power behind his shots.
