Roy Jones was hated too, It's because everyone expects the best fighters to fight the best opposition EVERY fight.

Some people expect the best fighters to be supermen, but they're only humans. Those superheros are imaginary, the boxers are real people...

People hate on those on top, because they are jealous... from their couch.

If those on top happen to be (or behave like) arrogant pricks (Mayweather), then people get real mad... from their sorry ass couch.

Why do some people hate on the best fighters? Do we demand they be supermen and infallible, and have unrealistic expectations of them? Shouldn't people learn to accept the reality that none of them are perfect - that they're only human?
Good post Tunney! I'd hit you with some K but I've given out too much in the past 24 hours and I can't give any to you until I spread some more.

          Jealousy....

            excellent point tunney.

at lot of it is because of their respective fans as well.

example: calzaghe is a good fighter but when his fans go overboard and say things like he'll beat roy jones or something like that it's annoying. at least for me.

plus a lot of it is people just trying to get attention on their threads or posts. like when people say pacquiao is ducking marquez. most of them know manny and juan is gonna fight again but they just want to say because manny has a lot of fans and they'll get a lot of responses.

When a fighter is the best they are on a pedestal from which the only way is down. Boxing fans who don't like them do like other boxers and naturally want to see them as top dog, which can only be achieved by toppling the current incumbent. As long as the guy at the top keeps winning and events in the ring can't topple him, then the only way to bring him down is to criticise him, hence the hate.

The effect is magnified by the fact that since the 'best' boxer keeps winning, the criticisms of him as a boxer seem almost contradictions in terms to his fans, because if he is winning he obviously isn't very flawed, right? To his critics, who are actually looking for a way that 'fighter X' might take the crown, the top guy's fans seem almost delusional, unable to see the evidence of their own eyes that the guy isn't as good as he seems.

...and round and round we go...

I never knew an undefeated fighter can be considered a bum.
