we all do it. some more than others. but in general i am thinking lately that we are hating alot on guys for numerous reasons. is it deserved? or are we being a little harsh?
Why are we so quick to hate on fighters....

what do you consider hating? take me for example
i recognize floyd is currently the best
i recognize floyd is an all time great
i recognize tha there is most likely no one that can beat him
i'm fine with him being more than just a boxer and being an entrepreneur
but
ill call out BS when his fans tell me he has consistently beaten the best after moving up to WW
ill call out BS when his fans say Cotto doesnt deserve a shot at him
ill call out BS when his fans say Cotto isnt a draw
ill call out BS when his fans say he doesnt need to fight anyone of worth anymore because he has already accomplished what he needed
ill call out BS when his fans say everything is doing is good for boxing
so the reality is that when i call out his fans, they say im hatin on him when in fact, im just talkin to his fans.
so, is that hatin on Floyd? -
Yes. Too harsh. There are certain fighters who get on my nerves, like De La Hoya allowing Forbes' name to be missing from the promo poster, for example. For that, he deserves to be knocked out! Floyd for not fighting who he should be fighting, etc.
But yes, we are far too quick to disrespect fighters, and the thing is we've heard it all before anyway, it just goes round in circles and gets irritating to read the same old ****. Calzaghe slaps. BLAH. Calzaghe is an over-protected Euro-bum. BLAH. I can't count how many hate posts there are towards Calzaghe right now. Some people are so bitter it's amazing that they allow something insignificant to get to them so much.
And people make hate posts for what reason? To change people's opinions on a fighter they like? I tell you for sure -- it does not work! It's like someone dissing a band you like. Does it make you like the music less? Of course not. You just end up thinking they are a jerk for saying it.
At the end of the day (to steal a Calzaghe-ism), I have no problem with who people enjoy watching and supporting. Who the **** am I to say they are wrong?
LIVE AND LET LIVE.
I have the utmost respect for pretty much any boxer who has the balls to step into the ring and put their life at risk. It should not be disrespected.

No matter what, when it comes to public figures - or even the man in the street; there are going to be people who like, and dislike certain individuals. It's human nature. There is no like without dislike, there are no reasons to like someone or something, without reasons to dislike someone or something. Natural balancing, period. This is universal law.
Now, hating and disliking a fighter is like a tree falling in the woods. If there's nobody there to say otherwise it never happened. The only reason hating is an issue is because nuthugging is an issue. Comprende?Comment

i think we hate on fighters because of their fans.. u kno
i hate calzaghe, and always will.. and i despise his fans..
back in o5 it was the same, i wanted manny pac to lose to shut the pinoys up..
its the fans that i generally dislike, more than the fighter..
thats my two centsComment

Because most of the people here are kids. From here it goes two ways: First way -- kids always need idols or role models(****, most adults need them too) and whenever their role model(who is still a human and is not perfect) performs just a bit differently from their expectations or his image is just off from what they expect and love(just notice how much fuss KayJay's thread about Hopkins's true upbringing made. A lot of people were butthurt) they get lost and angry.
The second reason is a direct derivative of the first but I am too drunk to talk about it. So, bite it.Comment

It's the fans that turn a campfire into a national disaster. People go on a ****ing rampage after they have to hear ****. That's when it starts.

Whenever I am about to post something trashing a fighter, it's ALWAYS because some fan of his posted some unbelievable piece of bs.
I usually stop and think about the hard work the fighter put in (the idea of the roadwork is usually enough) to be where he is... The possible effects are
1) I refrain from posting
2) I change my post to make it as objective as possible without insulting the fighter.
3) I just insult the ball-licker
dominating, flamboyant p4p kings (such as pea, rj, pbf) are in general more hated (with or without fans), just because they are on top and they make it look too easy.Comment

You're right in a lot of ways, Addison, but I think it goes too far. It's way beyond liking and disliking, it's rampant hatred, and in my eyes, hatred makes the world a bad place. We should all be a little more tolerant and tactful. We can still be critical of fighters and / or their supporters, but keeping it realistic and under control would be a good thing. Just my opinion. No matter what, when it comes to public figures - or even the man in the street; there are going to be people who like, and dislike certain individuals. It's human nature. OK, so Queensdawg, you say you despise Calzaghe and his supporters. That's fine, it's your choice, but I think if I was to sit in a room and have a conversation with you, you wouldn't hate me at all. If you are at all a balanced person, you would see I am a reasonable person who gets along with anyone and everyone, given a chance.

A lot of the hate comes AFTER a big win or a good performance by a fighter.
It's actually a childish kind of jealousy (like after Wlad unified the two titles, and now after Joe becomes light heavyweight Ring champion, the haters come out in full force).Comment
