    Anyway... just some thoughts.
Yeh I agree.. I think the BIG reason was, Bernard didnt give him ANYTHING else to think about... no combinations... never came back with a left hook... didnt goto the body at all... no real jabbing going on... just one punch and clinch... Joe IS an elite fighter... so you might get him with that a few times, but if thats all your going to do, then hes gonna be waiting for it...

Roy... STILL, at 39... DOES throw combinations... and there VERY fast, and from ALL different angles... his right hand his considerably faster, more accurate, more powerful... and he uses it more... sometimes 2 - 3 in a row... he also goes to the body 4 times more than bernard... yes even this old roy...

Should be a VERY interesting fight... especially for what could happen to Roys overall career status, should he win.

Where would you put him all time if he came out on top?

        i really dont know...

if its joes SMW title they fight for... Roys the 1st guy in 106 yrs to go from MW to HW, then back down to LHW.... he would be the ONLY person ever in history to have won a HW title then drop down to SMW and win.... he would be TOP 10 atg imo... at 39 to beat a 15+yr champion.. undefeated... it would be unheard of...

roy knows this... and im telling you... his motivation will be THROUGH the ROOF... your about to witness the fastest handed 40yr old youve ever seen in your life... roy will want it more than ANYTHING.. and when you get someone like him motivated... its gonna be problems

some people will doubt it.. they will deny it.. the ywill call him a shell... im telling you... im just telling you... watch how he comes into this fight...

Totally. Roy's still got something special and he always will have. I feel a fight with Calzaghe would be 50/50. Only a complete and utter buffoon would count Roy out, even at 39 and past his peak.

You and me think alike, I am true fans of both but something in me tells me Roy will come in to this fight more motivated than he has been in years. It will be a fantastic fight with Roy proving he belongs on TOP with the greatest fighters EVER.

I'm telling you i've seen the future, I see Roy flooring Calzaghe with a hard right, then ending it with a flurry which forces the ref to stop it.

The OP made a well balanced introduction however I think that some of you are overestimating Roy's resurgance. He may be fast against Anthony Hanshaw and a way out of weight class and completely unprepared Felix Trinidad but Calzaghe has proven himself to have fast hand and footspeed at an elite level. Roy isn't there at the moment. Furthermore I think Hopkins is a cagey and elusive target which doesn't suit Calzaghe while Roy will be much more hittable.

Factor in the fact that Joe is a southpaw, I think Roy gets stopped.

Calzaghe will probably try and box Roy the way he did against Kessler, he will only lead when/ if he sees Roy tireing at all. Otherwise he will try and box at range.
how calzaghe fights depends on whether or not calzaghe can hang with roy's speed. Calzaghe doesn't have Tarver's 1 punch KO power, so he will have to do what Glen Johnson did and pressure Roy if he wants a KO.

                      Good post and good assessment!

i think Roy will be Joe's hardest fight by far.
If its in Wales i think Calzaghe wins. not cuz of dodgy scoring but he seems a different fighter at home! The hopkins fight was one of his very worst performances. the same joe that beat lacy and kessler will out point Roy... i think
