Its because the boxing fans of this era are far more tribal then any era.

And blacks a`rent into the sport like they use to.

Floyd had to play the bad guy role to get people to pay to see if a hope would beat him like Jack Johnson.

Gatti didn't have to agree to fight floyd, neither did oscar, but they carried the viewing figures in those fights and got floyd his biggest pay days. Why doesn't floyd do the same for the best other welter in the world, and the fight every boxing fan around the world wants to see?
I'm sure its more to do with timing than anything else.At the moment Floyd stands to make mega bucs fighting Hatton and Oscar.Surely anyone with a business mind would go for mega bucs first.

If this ws Hatton talking about Witter then yes I would criticise hatton fighting Lazcano because he stands to make more fighting Witter.

Surely it is unfair to criticise Floyd at the moment.Naturally he cant commit himself to fighting Cotto in 2009 because by then anything could have happened

Ok but thats because gatti gave him a chance why can floyd to the same, gatti gave his chance, oscar gave him a chance, what? is cotto not worthy? is he not a champion? every great fighter losses, they are not remembered because of their losses but the way they came back and redeamed themselves. You never hear people talk crap about ali loosing or duran, but it was the fact they they kept on fighting the best out there. Floyd would never be that GREAT.

How many years did it take Cotto to headline a PPV event? 2 3? Mayweather will never fight Cotto and will be looked at as a coward. Everyone in boxing knows it. Theres not one fight people would rather see. As pressure builds up he will use Arum as an Excuse not to fight him. Yet he talks about a fight with Pacman hes a joke.
Many claim to understand the tangibles that surround Mega fights, often babbling about half truths and objective rhetoric. Sure Mayweather Cotto would be an excellent fight for the Avid fan...we want to see it. Is Cotto stock rising? Of course it is. Can the Host Venue, PPV and sponsors alike afford to have such an event be underserving? Hell no. Cottos fan base is relatively minimal in comparison to the potential drawing of a De La Hoya or Mayweather, who continues to work at his marketability (You do believe that the WWE appearance was a part of it). Fact: Without a Huge following PPV sales would be dismal. It would be more than Obvious that Cottos' handlers work on generating interest when Cottos' previous fights barely scratched at over 300K. This fight will happen and trust Mayweather would want to eclipse any previous numbers ever recorded. Why De La Hoya II? Why not. Ricky Hatton II? Why not?..... Huge "Fan Base" = Huge Numbers. And Paquiao has a HUGE Following.....Fact Cottos' fans are majority of Puerto Rican descent..his biggest events are held here in NY, where the Puerto Rican population is Huge, he needs more than that to be relevant in the BOXING WORLD.

              Floyd is already GREAT...first off.

and secondly....Who ever wins between Margarito and Cotto will earn the BIGGEST pay day of their lives against Floyd.

I agree to this more than the whole "running" thing.

Well duhh, but Floyd would fight Cotto before fighting Margo. If he says Cotto cant do numbers or whatever hes saying then Margo is way behind cause he has never headlined a PPV.
