BH started late taking up boxing so he will last longer. But it is up to him what he wants to do. He can still box very well. Depends on who he wants to fight. He wants RJJ of course so he wont retire. And while he is still good BH will want to know if he can still cause nightmares to the top boxers when he is 50 years old.

I just hope though if BH loses on points in future fights he wont complain so much that he won. Especially when the stats say the opponent landed more punches on his face and body. If you could win fights by landing less than your opponents wouldnt every boxer be trying to do that?

Hopkins would rarely throw more than 2 punches.

A younger Hopkins would have put together combinations but now all he does is lean his head forward and throw a lead right hand. Awful.
I agree, Although IMO he won the first half of the fight, the second half of the fight he actually looked kinda old, excessively grabbing and he was not as accurate as he was in the earlier rounds. Like max said he kind of devloped a strategy to not decisively lose but that doesn't exactly equate to winning.
He's done enough in the sport to retire... and he's 43 for peace sake!!

If I watched the same fight, it was joe c picking himself up off the canvas for the come from behind W. It was also calzaghe who wore a cut across his nose from a hopkins right hand. Let's keep it funky, hopkins tried to maul, make it an ugly fight, & counter whenever possible which he was able to effectively accomplish for about 4 or 5 rds. Calzaghe's work rate did win out in the end, but everyone knows hopkins didnt take any punishment in that fight. Hell, he actually won on one of the judge's scorecards. It was a split, not a runaway decision. He fought the same fight against both tarver & wright in route to unanimous decisions. At this pt in his career, I dont think his stamina will allow him to **** & throw a high number of punches per rd w/out gassing out so he conserves as much energy as poss. The same was true w/ the taylor losses. He simply got outworked in route to losing a razor thin decision. Other than that, I dont see much decline in his skill set. He's just as crafty & knowledgeable as ever. Good win for calzaghe though. However, Im not sure if he wants to **** w/ pavlik right now. That's the one guy who can match his work rate but has formidable punching power (esp the right hand). If a 43 yr old bhop can put him on his azz, pavlik will have him seeing orange stars, green clovers, blue diamonds & purple horseshoes.
I don't think you saw the fight most others did. He didn't have a "cut" on his nose from Hopkins' right hand (unless it was a backhander) He had a slight skin sc****, on the middle RIGHT side of his nose. It couldn't have come from a right hand. More likely, as the writers and analysts say (the observant ones anyway) it came from Hopkins' head.

As for the KD, please look at that scene again, and note the direction Calzaghe was moving (backwards) the position of his feet, (squareish) and the fact that Hopkins rushed into him and ran him over, to the canvas. He was really pushed down, and a KD was awarded because of the inconsequental punch just before. You saw the alert and immediate way he got up, and you heard his comment after the fight in which he said that he "slipped".

All this said, it was an accurate but not heavy punch, caught him flush on the mouth. The fight itself,....................well ...............??

hopkins retirement is long overdue. the time has come. unfortunately for him, it took joe to beat him to retire.

and a white boy retired him.

                      nah......he's still a solid trainer.

it's just his recent big fights have been losses. oscar lost but it was FLOYD he fought and bernard is 43 and joe is no journeyman. joe was #3-4 p4p on most people's list.

roach has a lot of knowledge and a good trainer he just can't turn back time for those two.
