    Prime Calzaghe vs Prime Hopkins

Prime Calzaghe had a lot of power while Prime Hopkins had greater stamina than he has today but he was a come forward fighter instead of fighting on the ropes as he does today (much easier for Calzaghe). Hopkins in his prime also wouldn't have experienced fighters like Tarver and Winky in preparation for Calzaghe, this fight for me is a no brainer.

I guess this would have to be @ 168.

I think Calzaghe would win a UD similar to yesterday in a fight far more entertaining.

it would be a decent fight but i reckon bernard would proabably be the aggressor more and maybe wed see more of joe as the counter puncher.

still think joes speed would be a bit too much for hopkins

I see it like this, 160 was Hopkins' territory, 168 was Calzaghe's and 175 was Jones'.

If Hopkins moved up to fight Joe, he would lose. Same with Calzaghe if he went to 175 to fight Roy.

        Bernard would win.

the prime Bernard is, in my opinion, the one who fought Felix Trinidad ( i love that fight!!). Bernard would also fight with his back on the ropes but would be a faster and more effective counter puncher!

I don't see how he can beat Calzaghe tbh. Each to thier own though.

I thought Hopkins was going to win on Saturday but I was proven wrong. If the fight happened 5 years ago It would have been a better fight but if you take 5 years off Hopkins, you're taking 5 years off Calzaghe too. I think Calzaghe would win.

i think prime bernard wins to be honest with you.

joe beat bernard with activity. bernard is a very ugly fighter. he was more exciting when he was younger but no barnburner either. i think a young bernard can ko joe. he got knocked down in the 1st round by a 43-yr. old bernard. in his 20's bernard would be stronger and have more stamina. i think joe gets caught with a punch he doesn't see.

i don't know how much more power joe had before the hand injuries but i don't think it'd matter. bernard has a very durable chin and you can't ko him with one or two punches and as you saw yesterday with all the grabbing and rough housing joe just wouldn't be able to put a big combination together to ko nard. once joe lands a punch or two bernard will start hugging or shouldering him off or turning him.

thats a good point, Bernard did fight on the backfoot in that fight and was very effective, yet at the same time had a higher workrate and was getting more done each following round.

When was Calzaghe's prime to you? most people would say that he is only about a year away from his prime if even that, because he looked the best in his career against Kessler and Lacy. just because he hit harder earlier in his career doesnt mean he was a more effective fighter...I have a hard time believing that the Joe that struggled with Reid or the Joe that got dropped by Mitchell was in his prime.

When were there primes though? I think if you take them both at early thirtie, Calzaghe still wins because his hands we slightly less fragile, and if anything quicker hands, whilst Hops didn't have the supreme defence he has now that was his best weapon against Joe.

                    So Joe by UD.
