I think there is holding and holding if you know what I mean. If someone constantly holds then the fighters need to be broken apart, but not the second they clinch. I think you have to give a little time and see if they are gonna fight on the inside, but if they are holding and hitting then yeah that's not right and break them apart. I just think he was too quick to break them apart and in my eyes (maybe I'm biased but it was Hopkins and Mayweather who were doing the holding when close) and if a fighter repeatedly holds then warn them that if they don't stop you WILL take a point away. Cortez never warned them and seemed to think Hatton was the instigator in the holding in his fight with mayweather. Mayweather did use illegal forearms and not warned but whenever he or his cornerman complained about Hatton he seemed to back them up and side with them.
Hopkins use of the head should have a least deserved a warning, he just mentioned constantly about the use of heads but kept saying it to both fighters, when it was Hopkins that was pushing his head into Calzaghes face.
Like I said earlier maybe I'm biased and got caught up in the emotion of the big fights and not seen things clearly, but at the time and now this is how I see it. Maybe in 5-10 years time when I sit and watch the fights again I will see things differently.
