Is Joe Cortez the worst referee in boxing

This guy shouldn't be allowed to ref any big fights again. This isn't sour g****s but he is biased towards american fighters. He never gave Hatton a chance and repeatedly warned Hatton which threw him off his game plan and denied us a better fight.

Don't get me wrong Mayweather would have won anyway and is clearly the better fighter but the fight could have been better as could last nights fight.

Respect to Hopkins he is a class fighter and a very difficult opponent and made Joe look ordinary but again the ref ruined the fight and allowed the american fighter to get away with illegal tactics.

I hope this guy is never allowed to ref any big fights again between an american and non-american fighter.

cane, you shouldn't have any excuses.your a good poster.cortez didn't do anything wrong.when both these fights happen to have two fighters from the uk and both fights end up clinch fests it's hard to take away points from a big fight like those.people would've made excuses to why so and so lost cause of the ref either way.

Hopkins clearly initiated every single clinch, that was his strategy. I'm not sure why it was legal in this fight. Also Hopkins threw a lead right in combination with a head butt a lot. I thought Hopkins' approach to the fight was all wrong and dirty. But in the end he lost because he wasn't nearly active enough, not because he didn't fight the right fight.

Ok, maybe he had an off night December 8th. But....the fight was HUGE. The pressure mighta got to him. I can honestly say that I have only seen one fight were i thought Cortez didnt do a stellar job, that was Hatton-Mayweather. But thats old i dont give a **** anymore.

Hes a good referee and did a good job on Hopkins-Calzaghe.

I seriously don't like Cortez. Firm but fair?

I also can't understand a word he says, sounds like a caveman grunting!

the headbutt yeah i agree with that.but had he taken a point or 2 away it would've been the other way around from the hopkins fans.

i think cortez is on of the best. he just does not allow holding no matter who you are. he did it to hatton and he did it to hopkins. mills lane once disqualified a boxer for holding to much.
