Is there some way we can laugh at the people who said Joe would KO Bernard and would completely school him, and who constantly refer to Joe as a legend who would have bummed RJJ, Toney, etc in their primes?

The problem is you need the other guy to actually stand and fight to score the KO/TKO.
When he is on his bike like a ***** then it isn't likely.
Imagine if there were more Bernard Hopkins style fighters?
