No surprises there. Joe always throws a lot of leather. It's boxing and it's about who scores the most. And Joe did.

After I heard the first idiot judge's scorecard, I thought Calzaghe was going to be robbed.

Hes lucky the fight wasn't more open Calzaghe would have stopped him.

JC stole it in the later rounds. Sheer pressure and heart & a change of gameplan too. He started moving in and out, putting great pressure!

Setanta had him winning it too.... it was scrappy BUT intense

Joe fought a ****** fight, and Hop is still boring

All Joe had to do was box on the outside and it would've been so much easier for him. But, what does he do? He falls in after he punched, got too close, etc. He let Hopkins come forward and hold on when what he should've been doing is taking a step or two back when B-Hop was lunging forward with his head down.

It was a bad gameplan for Joe and he should feel fortunate that he escaped with a win. Joe's punch output was **** for pretty much most of the fight and he let Hop dictate the ENTIRE fight; which, for the life of me, I can't understand. Why would the faster, better boxer let a guy HUG him for 12 rounds??? By doing this, Joe actually showed some vulnerability because he showed that he doesn't know how to adjust in a big fight. A mistake that could've cost him.

Bernard did all he could do in this fight; and pretty much looked like crap doing it. I can't believe Hop thinks people enjoy watching him fight because he doesn't do ****. I really hope Hop retires because this fight made me like him even less than I did before. Sure, he executed his gameplan but nothing is more boring in a fighter than when he throws one punch at a time and then falls into his opponent only to clinch for 5 seconds at a time.

                    Hollow victory for Calzaghe

Think he got exposed tonight. Sure, he probably won most rounds on....I dunno, coming forward(desperation?) but he was dreadful.

Props to Hopkins. He knew how to win but his 43 year old body just couldn't summon the strength to take JC out. No doubt in my mind he would have done so if he was a younger. Never got hurt, never got dictated to by JC, always seemed in control.

Hollow, hollow victory for JC. In NO WAY a legacy defining one.

Joe Calzaghe Outpoints Bernard Hopkins To Win

By Sammy Rozenberg - A historic night at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. In his very first fight in the United States, Joe Calzaghe (45-0, 32KOs) sealed his legacy by winning a split-decision over recognized light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins (48-5, 32KOs). The scores were 114-113 Hopkins, 115-112 Calzaghe and 116-111 for Calzaghe.

Calzaghe, 36, did not get off to a good start. Hopkins, 43, dropped him with a right hand in the very first round and began to bully Calzaghe on the inside. As the rounds went on, Calzaghe began to get his rhythm going by landing combinations at close range, and using his left hand to push Hopkins back. Hopkins’ key weapon was his right hand, but after a few rounds Calzaghe could see the right hands coming and blocked the shots with his glove. [details]
