Calderon should fight Christian mijares whos a flyweight. He dominated Jorge Arce, and fight him too. That'd be a great match up, just here bored with Calzaghe/Bernard as a main event. so, meny good fights possible.

I agree in principle we should always be open to improvements, changes and what not, and whilst the original post might be over the top, knocking a few weight divisions at first to see, would be a good idea imo. Reason being it's at the point there's just too many variables to make even reasonable assessments, it's easy to dodge opponents with your weight. These factors aren't so true of most other sports, so a little trim at least would be good.

Going by some of the responses, jeez yea, people really do get up tight about change. It's a sport, stop claiming your opinion as fact, i.e, if you can't keep up with the divisions don't watch it, or people whom want less divisions aren't fans, lol, so it's not ok to have opinions now, but yours is ok?

It's a little freaky how touchy people are about change. It happens in all sports, and in life, get over it.

People don't really give a **** about all the weight classes anyways, most casual fans only watch the fights they are told to watch. The mega fights become a buzz at the office/school/work whatever it is, people then tune in.

Sure there are too many title's but back in the day there were other titles also, International Boxing Union (IBU),New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC),The National Boxing Association (NBA),National Sporting Club,California State Boxing Commission. They all had titles but people followed the linear path (man who beat the man) Boxing fans know who the real champ is and we know who the top dogs are, I could care less if John Q ******* can't spend 30 minutes to figure out how things work.

Good post. Fans don't care about weight divisions, or even titles really. They only care about the matchups. Condensing weight divisions would be a step in the wrong direction, which is the last thing boxing needs.

We're not scared of change is just that boxing has it right with weight classes. It is the most effective way of keeping fights from being mismatches (like Calderon vs Vazquez) and keeping boxers safe. In MMA it is safe to have this gaps between classes because there are different ways of defending yourself and mma fights often end quickly. Boxing it's a whole different story you have prolonged punishment with multiple knockdowns, fights like Marquez vs Vazquez.

What works in one sport won't work for the other, boxing is way more weight sensitive than mma. Just look at Hatton he is the **** at 140 and **** at 147.
