    hmmmm

toughest athletes in sport or just in the US also in boxing and all fighting sports it's instinct, adrenaline and training that take over when the chips are down, nowhere near the same level of mental toughness needed as a golfer footballer, gymnast etc where u need to keep ur emotions in check to be at the top of ur game

No rugby player would ever make an NFL roster.
Of course they would if the sport was worth a damn in the countries where rugby is commonplace. There are different fitness and skill requirements of course. NFL requires more explosive power but less maximal lower body strength. It requires a faster pace and acceleration than rugby but far lower levels of endurance. In fact endurance is not even a requirement in NFL, you get a break every ten seconds.

Ultimately both of those sports are tough and physical, but in rugby you do it without the crutch of big pads. The toughest thing about american football is not looking like a twat in those space-age outfits.

This list is total arse. But there again Sports Illustrated have a feature once a year entitled "The Greatest Fights in Sports History" and resolutely fail to mention a single boxing match.

Tell that to Jonah Lomu, the guy was 6'6, 270lbs, and did the 100m in 10.9 seconds. An absolute beast.

It kills me that these ****ers have the balls to say boxing is dead when they pull **** like this.

"Hey we have to put a boxer in there."

"Hey Mayweather is supposed to be good right?!"

            *******s.

That's where people get it twisted though. Sports Science did an experiment about it, but I gotta say it was very poorly done.

With that said, they concluded what I've been saying all along. The pads give you not only physical armor, but psychological armor. You have a sense of protection that makes you play with more reckless abandon. So it goes deeper than that.

you dummies should learn how to read...

Let's start a barroom argument. Who are the toughest athletes in sports? Well, hang on a second. How do you define tough? The ability to take and deliver a shot or ten? To play hurt and still play well? The utter refusal to give in to pressure, circumstance, or more physically imposing foe? To dominate one's opponents or even one's sport? How about the ability to overcome serious personal setbacks, such as a dire injury or illness, and return to the highest level of performance? How about sheer longevity in a punishing, demanding game?

We've considered all of those things while sorting through long lists of worthy candidates. Our Top 25 (in order, says us) contains some surprising choices. We've also put together a list of current notables in the four major pro sports and a photo gallery of the greatest old school toughs -- legends who are no longer active, surely to the relief of their beleaguered foes.

To Tiger's credit, you have to have incredible mental strength to do what he does.
