no he didn't go to prison.
he was suspended from boxing for about 3 years or so.
his conviction was overturned by the supreme court because it was found out that the fbi was illegally wiretapping ali. -
i thought he was sentanced to 5 years? and im lookin all over google but it doesnt actually say he went to prison or what prison he went to or anything..im doin a research paper on ali and i need to make sure my facts are trueComment

like i said. he was convicted but he didn't do time in prison. he was free but they took away his passport and his boxing license. they appealed and after about 3 years they overturned his conviction. you really should go to a library if this is for a research paper.Comment

He got setenced to 5 years the maximum but was alowd out on apeal, he never served a day in prison because by the time he had went through all the apeals it was found out the FBI had been monitering him ilegaly.Comment

What I admire most of Ali's steadfast refusal to be drafted was how little physical danger he faced himself. He wasn't going to the frontlines of 'Nam, he would be putting on exhibitions for the USO. In hindsight you cannot make the argument that Ali was scared of facing the war because he wouldn't be seeing any action.Comment
