If Calzaghe throws 100 punches a round and lands 30, it's more likely the judges would give him the round over Hopkins who throws 30 punches and lands 15.

Did you see how many punches Calzaghe threw the round after he got knocked down by Kabary Salem? About 3 punches.

But typically Calzaghe throws about a 100 punches a round, judges normally get awed by the flashier punches and that's what Calzaghe does, he throws a lot of flashy punches.

Not necessarily. Punch type is important. If a majority of those punches landed by Calzaghe are pitty-pat punches and the majority that Hopkins lands are power shots, the judges will likely favor Hopkins despite the lower punch count.

HaHA.. I'm just wondering how much Hopkins will land his lead right hand. Calzaghe knows to watch out for it of course, but that particular punch is Joe's least favorite, and he's not a defensive wizard. It's Hopkins very best.

Yeah, it'll be Hopkins' most effective punch, he needs to be throw more than he has been throwing though.

If anyone watched that Hopkins tutorial vid he says something along the lines of "always keeping busy, even if you aren't connecting or hitting hard by throwing the jab you keep them busy, keep them off balance and on the defensive". i'm paraphrasing, but it was roughly like that.

If Calzaghe is throwing lots of jabs, then he's going to keep Hopkins busy, off balance and on the defensive.

I think the fact that some people scored this 4th round of Kessler vs Calzaghe for Calzaghe says it all. It's obvious who is landing the harder punches but Calzaghe is simply throwing and throwing even though he is not landing clean.
In the end Calzaghe outworked Kessler by about 500 punches.

Hopkins has to worry about that. In Hopkins' prime he could match Joe's stamina (just watch the fight against Glen Johnson) but now I'm not so sure.

Same thing happened with Johnson vs Dawson, in some of the rounds (not all) Dawson lands his punches on Johnson's gloves while Johnson lands his punches flush on Dawson's chin and wobbles Dawson... but the sheer number of punches Dawson threw compared to Johnson in those rounds made many people score them Dawson.

I'm not saying it's wrong to score fights like that but it's definitely a factor in this fight and there will probably be a wide variety of opinions on how the fight went after Saturday...

Freddie Roach said that Hopkins probably knows more about Boxing than anyone on his so called "Dream Team" himself included. If Hopkins loses to Calzaghe simply because Joe throws 100 punches a round that would be pretty ****ing ******.
