    It's funny how

the closer and closer that a fight gets the more even it becomes in the minds of people.

This weekend we had Margarito vs Cintron and Cotto vs Gomez. When people heard about the Cotto Gomez one they were baggin on Cotto for taking such an easy fight. Cotto is classes above him. But the closer and closer it got to fight night people started trying to reason out ways how Gomez would beat Cotto. He's a pretty good counter puncher. The night before there were people here talking about Gomez being a live underdog and even more competition then Cintron would be for Margarito.

The fact of the matter is, just like on multiple choice question (I just took a test), your first thought is usually right. The majority of people on here probably thought Hopkins was to old of man to be able to keep the pace Calzaggie would set. Now that the fight is closer people are trying to give reasons for Hopkins to win, he's old but tricky, he's dirtiness will be a factor, he's the best defensive fighter in the world(lol), but just like Gomez's supposed better counter punching skills, many of these traits will be missing.

Your first thought of this fight is probably the one with the least bias and probably right. So here's the question: Who did you think would win initially?

Good post, good point, good question. I initially thought Joe C would win. He looked so much better in his last fight than Hopkins looked in his. But Bernard is one of those guys you just shouldn't bet against. I remember laughin my ass of when people were sayin Oscar, Taylor, Tarver, or Winky might beat him. The last time I remember even thinkin he might lose was against Felix, and even though I leaned toward Tito it wasn't by the landslide most thought. And look how that **** turned out. The Taylor fights were bein discussed earlier, and even though he did lose those fights I always felt they weren't anything to be ashamed of. I've been leanin towards B-Hop as fight night's been aproaching, but if my gut was right it's a Calzaghe UD.

Which fight? The Cotto-Gomez and Margarito-Cintron fights?

My first thought on those fights were: Cotto by demolition, and Margarito by whatever, but I didn't think he'd beat Cintron up as badly as he did.

My first initial thought was Hopkins was going to win a close UD. Now it's closer to the fight, I see him winning easier than I expected.

So you're probably right, he'll win a close UD.

About the other 2 I knew Kermit would do a little better than the 1st time but still get KTFO. Bingo. I thought Gomez would lose competitively, makin his mark and gettin some respect even in defeat. Dead wrong.

lol the only thing I said that could be considered an insult to Hopkins was that he isnt the greatest defensive fighter in the world and he will probably be to old for Calzaggie.

Only thing Im saying is some people recently are probably arguing for some fighter to convince themselves.

I remember when I was picking Hopkins when the fight was first announced and people treated me as if I were a mental patient, who'd escaped a clinic and found an internet connection.

Funny how the closer the time gets the more even it becomes. I guess people are having second thoughts underestimating Ex.
