It's not that American fighters are always better than British fighters........

This is a message to the British users here, from an intelligent (or so I'd like to think) American fight fan.........

When you hear American fight fans saying guys like Hatton, Khan, and Calzaghe are "overrated", you're reading too much into the Nationalistic aspect of things. When this really isn't a Nationalistic debate at all.......hear me out.

When you have a fighter who fights 90% of his fights in his home Country it's not just Americans who are a bit skeptical of their credibility, it's the world. Fight fans aren't just American, we come from all parts of the globe and all walks of life, so Nationality is just a meaningless byproduct of where we happened to be born.

The bottom line is this: When you hear someone saying that they think X fighter is either overrated or protected, and that they'd like to see them come to the States to fight, it doesn't mean we think our fighters are better than yours.

**** just look at the top 10 p4p fighters in the world? How many are American? We're not saying we have the best fighters in the world, what we're saying is this...The best fighters in the world come here to make their name, this single fact has been true since the dawn of boxing.

Just try not to take it so personally.

The point is that there is no reason for Hopkins to fight outside of the United States, when the best in the world are coming here to make their name.

Say what you will but the best in the world come here to face each other on the grand stage.

Yh but half of them refer to another overrated limey or something like that so it is nationalistic most of the time.

And if he beats Calzaghe? What then? Still overrated is my guess.

Its a money thing thats all.

Through the 50,60,70,80s during a time where most countries and industries were not doing so well America was booming. Its where the money was, it all dates back to the economic succsess America had after the war. There cities wernt smashed they lost minimal troops there industry was flying and Britain, Germany and Russia owed them trillions.

So with the other powers struggling America was the only choice imo, pre war great fights happened in Europe as well as America. But again in the 20s due to the great wall collapse America needed heros so was born Jack dempsy.

Granted you're always going to have a certain amount of Nationalistic fans who are likely *******s as well, but I think the majority of fight fans (maybe not on this site) don't buy into the nation vs. nation bit. We just want to see the best fight each other.

Kudos for a sensible thread. There's way too much nationalistic garbage on here when we are all supposed to be fight fans.
