In the latest edition of Ring Magazine, Bernard Hopkins says that American fighters are much better than British fighters. The comment was yet another dig at his April 19 opponent, unbeaten Joe Calzaghe of Wales. Hopkins feels that Calzaghe is the last piece of the puzzle in the UK, and once he beats Calzaghe - then it will be clear that American fighters are better. [details]

I'm losing respect for Hopkins because of this. If he's "better" because he's American, he better prove it on Saturday.

Both guys can talk all the nationality **** they want but the US v UK thing is all just part of the hype. Hopkins beatin Joe C or vice versa proves the winner was the better fighter than the loser on fight night, and that's all it proves.

and american commentators/analysts for the most part aren't nationalistic in boxing. I will say that they are more racist if anything. I could bet anything that all of the white american commentators/analysts will be pulling for calzaghe to win even if they don't say it. white americans identify with calzaghe more than hopkins.

exactly!!! he's doing this to generate interest in the fight from the "casual" boxing fans. ppl are getting overly sensitive about this ****, and this is what hopkins wants. the more that tune in, the better, whether u cheer for hopkins or not.............
