Quintana-Williams Heading To a Purse Bid?

The rematch between WBO welterweight champion Carlos Quintana and Paul "The Punisher" Williams is possibly heading to a purse bid. According to a recent report by El Nuevo Dia, the WBO has ordered that purse bid be held because Quintana is unable to come to terms with Williams, who the sanctioning body will probably rank as their mandatory challenger because the fighters ahead of him are already involved with other bouts. Id say **** Williams.

Quintana deserves more. He won the first fight convincinly and he will win again. Williams only looks good when you stay infront of him.

He aint going nowhere, and watch him want a trilogy.

Hmm, Goosen is trying to convince Quintana not to go to a purse bid? Let me see, he's offering $400,000 right now, right? So, according to the WBO rules, so long as the purse bid is $533,000 for the total fight, Quintana wouldn't lose a penny. How did I come up with that?

The WBO rules state that, in the event of a purse bid,
In fights for the Title between the Champion and the Mandatory Challenger held in the country of origin, residence or nationality of the Champion, the Champion shall receive 75% of the purse and the Challenger shall receive the remaining 25%.
So, 75% of $533,000 is about $400,000 but then Williams gets the short end of the stick as his per-fight guarantee is surely much higher than $133K. Hell, he made over $900K in the first fight. There was a little over $1M available for the first fight so I don't see why there should be less available now.

Carlos should hold out for the purse bid and see what happens. I'm sure his DiBella (his promoter) will bid more than that. So, if Goosen really wants to represent his fighter's interest, he should agree to pay Carlos what he's asking for.

I think Quintana beats Williams again.

Let it go to purse bid. Quintana needs to get his loot. Williams camp are ****wads for not hooking Quintana up after making their gay rematch clause.

You know what surprises me is that financial details weren't worked out in the original clause. Probably because no one thought the upset would even happen.

I'll put 5k on Quintana at even odds. I won't be touching this fight in real life unless Quintana is the dog.
