On TV it honestly looked like Dawson was connecting a fair amount but Johnson did look pretty damn clean.
I didn't see him connecting much. I saw Johnson picking stuff off with his gloves and forearms.

He wasn't connecting much, but he was connecting.

Watch only the 7th round for that right hook if you need evidence of contact. It would have flattened any other man. It was a monster shot. Glen walked through it though. He's unreal.

Oh, make no mistake about it, Glenn Johnson is a BEAST - and he doesn't cut easily, but I have seen his eyes get swollen in fights where his opponant actually connected clean, effective punches, after all, Light Heavys do have some good pop as a rule.

In this fight however, Johnson used his considerable skill in picking off Dawsons' punches. BTW, Glenn Johnson is a MASTER at picking off shots, he even blocks body shots with his elbows - he is quite the slick brawler, maybe one of the best ever for the division as far as being a "brawler" and yet being "sneaky slick" - we like "sneaky slick brawlers"

Took the words out of my mouth. I remember telling everyone Johnson was blocking a lot of shots. You are so right in your post Soundtraveler....

As Glenn said, Dawson threw 90% of his punches at Johnson's head, and there isn't a single mark on him - and why is that? Because, as Johnson correctly stated, he blocked nearly everything with his gloves and forearms.

For the record, Dawson's face is swollen so bad his Mom wouldn't recognize him, because Glenn Johnson was able to deliver punches that actually LANDED!

Look, I have been involved in the sport before some of you around here were even born, and I for one am tired of judges who do not score a bout under the very criteria set forth under the Unified Rules Of Boxing.

You cannot score points for punches that are not landed "clean and effective". Certainly, you cannot be awarded a round in which your opponant is the "effective aggressor" and the one landing the "clean shots", while your punches are being blocked.

In other words - if you are running, and you are not landing punches - while your opponant is busy beating you about the head and shoulders - and body too for that matter - you lose the round - pretty simple.

If one fighter has the edge in two out of three of those rules for scoring a round - he is supposed to be awarded the round!!! Pretty friggin' simple. Rocket Scientists need not apply!!!

The three judges for the Johnson vs Dawson fight should have their state license revoked, and never be allowed to judge a fight again - period.

Furthermore the Florida Boxing Com. should seriously do some MAJOR house cleaning because it STINKS TO HIGH HELL and has for YEARS NOW.
I thought Johnson won 7-5. That said, if Dawson doesn't give him an immediate rematch then that tells me Dawson thinks he lost too. Something tells me that Dawson has his heart set on the easier fight with Tarver.

it's just a flat out injustice in our sport that incompetent judges can't see the real winner, they can't see the true skill that is/was going on, johnson was picking off those shots and that is what i was saying to my buddies during the fight. i was saying look at that skill, guy is walking through everything barely getting touched!!!!

i threw a ****ing fitz!!!!! when i heard the scores against johnson, it should have been a unanimous decision for johnson all the way through.

it's a real travesty, i'm glad and support johnson in his appeal and anyone else who is one his side,

it's truly ****ed up to take that away from a guy, a guy that has given nothing but good to the sport, a guy that has been patient and had enough bad beats in the sport. they did the same thing to hopkins with taylor, they robbed him for the younger more marketable guy, at least so they thought/think. taylor didn't take the belt away from hopkins, just as johnson took the fight to dawson and took the belts away from dawson, or so he should've been awarded the belts. that is what is ****ed up about this sport, and the ****ed up politics about boxing, all the way from the greasy promoters and all involved in fixing fights, that **** was a fix if i've ever seen one, paid off judges for sure.............................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

complete crap, johnson is the champion, no doubt. i just hope they flip it or give him another shot........................but they should flip it.

also to note, i like what he said about not buying into dawson's fights and ****, boycotting his fights so they can't sell him as a attraction and ****, that is right, that is what needs to be done, that is how i feel about gary "****head" shaw, that corrupt fat pervert ****, i can't stand that douche bag, it seems that one way or another people get seriously ****ed being around that guy.............hhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmm????? fat piece of ****..

I have no doubt in my mind that Dawson knows he got beat, that said, you can bet the house that he wants no more of Glenn Johnson. As far as I am concerned, Johnson is indeed the "Gatekeeper" of the division - you gotta get past him to be the King of the Mountain.

For his part, Dawson "snuck out the back door" with the belts, because if the fight is scored by who LANDED the clean shots, and not the "jabs to the forearms" he loses, simple as that....
