Yeah I read in his autobiography that they wouldnt let him have a box-off to get to Barcelona, they just refused him and let some other kid from Cardiff who didn't end up getting far at all.

Yea, because Joe was winning all the British ABA Titles they didn't want to let him go to the olympics but make him fight for more titles caus he was bringing more money for welsh boxing.

Yeah man he actually says in the book that it probabaly turned out the right way, because he would have been rich after the gold medal and wouldnt have the drive that kept him undefeated and a champion for a decade+.
