What is it with close decisions and crying robbery?

In a storybook world, all wrongs would be righted and Glen Johnson would never have suffered the indignation of the many robberies he'd been on the wrong end of. That said, he didn't get robbed against Chad Dawson.

If you didn't keep a scorecard and just figured Johnson won because of how many times he had Dawson hurt, then you can maintain that Johnson won big and was robbed.

Dawson fought well and was boxing and scoring points. While he was almost out in the 10th, he did come on in the 11th and won that round. I can point to 6 rounds where his quicker hands and combinations earned him rounds clearly.

I scored the fight 115-113 Dawson, but you could also make the case for Johnson winning by those same scores. It all depends on what you favored more. That isn't much of a swing, really.

I understand how sentiment could sway people's feelings. Who didn't shed a tear for Glen Johnson after his post-fight interview? Johnson has been a real hard luck fighter but that doesn't detract from Dawson's accomplishments.

To call Dawson-Johnson as a "robbery" is to categorize it alongside Casamayor-Santa Cruz or Whitaker-Chavez. Was it really on that par?

Put it this way, if Johnson got the decision, Dawson's fans would've cried robbery as well. Then, who would be wrong?

I had Johnson winning, but I agree it wasn't a robbery. Same with Pacquaio/Marquez, too close to ever be considered a robbery.

But it was a robbery to have all three judges score it 116-112!!!

Good post. People crying robbery after a fight like that are doing a disservice to fighters who are really robbed like Santa Cruz or Forbes. If you had a fight within two points, it wasn't a robbery.

I don't think he was robbed too, it was really close. I'm gettin PM from someone saying that Chad Dawson sucks and **** just because I said it was close and I don't even like Dawson which is the messed up part about the pm

I think it is legitimate to be puzzled by all three judges having exactly the same scores. That says to me that they all gave every close round to Dawson which is unusual at least.

Don't take my threads, adding some apt words speaking the truth and showing your knowledge. I agree fully, close fights aren't robberies, I think that post fight speech certainly had some people jumping on that Glen bandwagon, but the truth is the fight was close and I had Chad winning.

It wasn't close like the judges and some biased ppl had it. It was 8-4 glen johnson, he picked dawsons punches off and deserve the win. Glen had the better offense and defense, landing more punches per round and blocking more often then dawson.

For the fight to be close chad dawson needs to learn not to punch Glen johnsons gloves because your not suppose to get points by punching the other boxers gloves yet ppl seem to score it for him even though thats where the majority of dawsons punches landed.

**** was robbery, if Nate Campbell didn't get the decision over Juan Diaz. And one corrupt judge had it for Diaz, then that would be bull**** too.

I agree I felt the fight was close. I didnt' necessarily agree with the 116-112 scorecard of all three judges, but I felt Dawson won by one or two points. Once he started boxing Johnson he clearly was winning those rounds, what got him in trouble is when he tried to mix it up with him. I think some fans forget that fights are scored by rounds and not by which guys hurts the other the most.
