Who has the most desire to win..?
Who been in tougher fights..?
What do you do when you hurt..?
How can you handle Intentional Fouls..?
How can you adapt to the other fighters gameplan..?
Who has the better trainer ..??
Who Has the most pressure put on him from the build up..?
Who will do anything to win..?
Which fighter has tasted desperate before...?
And all the answer to those questions is Hopkins...
Hopkins i believe has a stronger will to win over Calzaghe...
I firmly believe this, and i don't see How Calzaghe will handle everything Hopkins will do to win..!!
This is not Wales, He is not at Home, He is not SAFE..!!
First of all I will say that I am surprised by your choice of deciding factors in this fight. Some, but not all of them, seem a little ephemeral to me, especially coming from you. I am not convinced that questions such as "who has more desire to win?", "who has the most pressure?", "who will do anything to win?" and "who has tasted desperate before?" are even answerable in a decisive sense, and if they are, I think some of them favour Calzaghe. I will get to your questions later. For now, let me state what I consider to the most pertinent question:
"Based on the evidence, which of the fighters at this moment in time appears to the better boxer, and is most likely to win?"
For me the answer to that question is Calzaghe, and my evidence is this:
In his last two important fights (lets forget Manfredo!) Joe Calzaghe faced boxers in Lacy and Kessler who were both younger, supposedly better, and both picked to beat him. They were no megastar names, but at the time of each fight both were regarded as being one of the most talented up and coming SMWs in boxing. They were not prospects, they were the new generation of champions. Kessler retains this status today, even if Lacy does not. Joe beat both easily. He looks like he may be boxing better than he ever has, and remains undefeated.
Bernard Hopkins, whilst having been a great champion in his day, is not the fighter he once was. His workrate has dropped, and after 10 years and 20 fights undefeated he has now lost twice in the last 3 years and 4 fights.. This alone is compelling evidence of marked decline, especially when compared with his earlier record. In addition we can say that he once would not have lost to the inferior Taylor, and his win over Winky Wright was laboured at best. Tarver I concede was a good win.
Based on their recent records alone, I believe that the evidence we have before us makes a compelling case for a Calzaghe win, and that is my prediction. Two long reigning and record breaking champions with similar pedigree are going to face each other, but simply one is on the up, and the other in decline. I think in the predictions business, that is most of the evidence we need.
I know of course, that I haven't addressed your questions or even discussed their respective styles etc. I will do so in further posts on this thread after some sleep. This is just my initial thoughts.
Tomorrow.
