its about maximizing your potential for marketing a fight and thats what THAT fight was made for. its wasnt to prove anything, no one was expecting anything to be proven.

They will fight for Cotto's title. Margarito will vacate his to keep Clottey out of the way.

Yea the likely site is MSG but im sure if Vegas is interested and puts up a large bid, it'll be there.

Fingers crossed. Nothing beats an electric MSG crowd.

And ticket sales wise, Cotto-Marg would do terrible in Vegas. Niether guy has a fanbase there so all the tickets would be sold outside of vegas

I agree somewhat, although we have explosions like this with great frequency after most fights. It's also very clear percentage wise there are far more Cotto fans online than Margarito fans, far more Cotto fans on the internet than most other fighters period really.. I won't expect Cotto vs. Margarito to be the massive success some people might think based on impressions gathered online or thereabouts. Cotto's East Coast fan base should come out in full force, but close to how they did for Judah or Mosley? Nah..

I'll tell you one thing; it was extremely important that Margarito be showcased on the same card as Cotto before they fight because Top Rank wants those fans to get a good look at Antonio Margarito.. We'll be seeing why. I can assure you.

Well theres a lot more to it then just that.

Mosley had fought to a boring decision (sorta) against Luis Collazo and hadnt fought for MONTHS prior. There was nothing there to inspire a casual fan to go to the fights other then to see Cotto.

Zab Judah was on a massive losing streak.

But now we have Margarito, who has fought right before Cotto in the last 2 cards and they have BOTH been in thrilling affairs (Marg-Johnson was quite a show for 1 round, Cotto-Mosley was fantastic, Marg-Cintron was a great performance as was Cotto-Gomez)

SO there is definetly a lot more to be excited about. I wasnt gonna go to the MOlsey fight but decided to last second. However this time, i cannot wait to get my hands on a ticket.

ALSO, Look at the boxing sites like ESPN.com and Yahoo. Listen to their podcasts and look at the youtube.com boxing shows. everybody is loving this Marg-Cotto fight. So when fight week rolls around, can u imagine the efforts and hype they will be putting into? Its gonna be BIG in the NY area.

Not to mention, all the hype ARUM and everybody puts into it AND Margs fanbase with the all the Mexicans in NY.

I think u sell out the Garden
