Joey Gamache: "I can't see Margarito beating Cotto"

Here are some quotes from Cintron's assistant trainer, former 130 pound champion Joey Gamache. For more, check out my next article...

"Margarito is a real solid guy. I don't know if he's getting a little long in the tooth. I think Cotto is a real special fighter. As tough as Margarito is, he's not the guy he was at 26-27. I can't see Margarito beating Cotto.

Cotto is a very intelligent fighter in that he can box and he can punch. What he'll pick up is that Margarito squares up because he wants to come to the inside. He's a guy thats gonna push you back.

Against a guy like Cotto, he's going to have to take some chances and that will open him up. It can be a tough fight, but Cotto is getting better. The thing is that what surprises me is that Cotto can do a lot of different things."

Interesting, I don't think Margarito is concerned about taking chances. He might be the last guy concerned about that. I'm impressed with Cotto's development as well, but Miguel is still not keen on taking punches. That's going to be a problem. BTW, Mr. Gamache, I know you are less than thrilled with the fact that Kermit went down. You're a good guy though.

I think Cotto would win by UD. Margaritos a tough S.O.B., but I think Cotto has too much skill.

Joey Gamache is cool but he's wrong here, I'm sure he would have said Cintron had a shot at Cotto before Margarito smashed him again. Seems like he might be a bit resentful towards the "Tornado" after breaking his fighters will and beating him down.

I rewatched Joey Gamache's Ko loss to Orzubek Nazarov the other day, damn the Ko is pretty sick.

Aside from Saturday, the only other time I got a good look at Margarita was when he fought the guy whose ear ripped.

I agree w/ Gamache, Margarita fights from a square stance. Another thing I noticed from last night was he also has poor footwork, the lil side to side Kermit would give him and he had a tendency of crossing his foot, what more against a better mover like MC. Cotto will shoot in from different angles and **** him all night. Cotto by a comfortable UD but grueling fight.

I agree with you, i wonder if Margaritos length will cause Cotto some trouble though.
