his fight agaisnt paul willaims was pretty good and it was close with marg coming on strong at the end. however guys liek clottey will **** margarito up, josh was slapping that ass around till he hurt his hand, i give marg a good chance against cotto cause on his toughness and power, however cotto is such a ****ing monster his power, body work might even be able to over come the tank that is tony margarito

The guy who I hated most in boxing before last night has now made me a fan. Crazy.

I think he beats Cotto too.

i did'nt hate Margarito but i deffo fell into the trend of Margarito bashing like many others ,and i feel like a **** now because he is a really good fighter

he may beat Cotto but im keeping my fingers crossed that he dont when they do meet cause Cotto is my Fav fighter active today

Same thing happened with me and Cotto.. there was a time where I wasn't a fan of the guy and didn't like him. It's hard not to like the guy though when he faces anyone you put infront of him fights more then twice a year and is very entertaining!

i agree that margarito is tough, keeps going forward no matter what and keeps throwing punches nonstop. against cotto it will be a very even fight, but i think cottos left jab (well, is more a straight than a jab =P ) is going to be an important advantage for him. cintron was doing his best when he was using the jab and keeping distance. of course cotto wont be fighting at distance, but against mosley and gomez he landed that jab all night long, and against margarito it should be the same.

but if margarito fights against mayweather, i think he has very little chance. mayweather would stay on the outside all the fight, and margarito wont be able to catch him. he isnt very fast, and mayweathers speed and agility would be too much for him. mayweather will never get on an infight against him like cintron did.

He lost because he started late, and that is all there is too it. Just like Hopkins did when he lost to Taylor in the first fight. Who got the better of the other if it wasn't judged round-by-round? Williams or Margarito? I'll give you a hint, it wasn't the guy who got the decision.

If getting schooled mean losing by two points, well then I guess he got schooled.

I agree with this topic, even after the Williams fight I didn't like Margarito too much

and starting too late or not vs P-Will Marg still got outclasses in the first 6 rounds or so based on Williams jab and movement

all in all though it was still a close fight .. and Margarito did come on strong in the later rounds.

                losing 8-4 7-5 and 7-5 isn't exactly horrible.

but back to topic, I agree Cintron-Margarito 2 was very exciting to watch, and going into the Cotto fight in July

I'd actually give the momentum to Margarito. he had the harder test in Cintron, not to mention fought an extra round and got hit more then Cotto.

and if he can get Cotto to brawl with him .. assuming his chin/body hold up could realistically win.

then again it is very hard to say, because as "questionable" as Cotto's chin is as a Welterweight .. he's yet to be dropped at 147.

Watching a fighter like Margarito honestly does make me dislike the style of slickster a little.

It just seems kind of ****ty in a sport dedicated to fighting that someone can win a match by landing a few and avoiding a lot, instead of actually engaging.

That's not to say that defense should go out the window, but jab/move, jab/move, jab/move does seem a little bit like winning through a loophole in the system, considering prizefighting is a sport that is dedicated to breaking the will and physicality of your opponent.
