''They promised me Cotto and they'd better deliver,'' said Margarito

Yeah it seems he is petrified alright. More like considers Cotto a sacrificial lamb with that statement.

it was on margaritos own accord to make the mandatory, not top-ranks. arum stated as much.
What you are saying is not accurate. Margarito has been desperate for the spotlight, desperate for paydays, for years. He would have sacrificed that belt in a hot second. He's been chomping at the bit. Bob Arum encouraged Tony to take the mandatory with the promise of a big fight later, in the near future. Arum made the strategic call and he pulled all the strings.

      Period.

What I am aware of is that Margarito pulled out of the fight, his reason I was not so sure about. I wasn't implying anything, I was asking a question to simply know the answer. Judging by the way you haven't answered the question it looks like you don't know either.

According to this ESPN article Baya is correct.

Margarito had a chance to fight Cotto in June at Madison Square Garden. They had agreed until Margarito surprisingly changed his mind and took less money to make a mandatory defense against Williams.
Cotto went on to knock out Zab Judah in a blazing slugfest on June 9. Margarito faced Williams on July 14 and we know how that turned out -- with Margarito on the losing end of a unanimous decision, 115-113, 115-113 and 116-112.

Margarito said he doesn't regret his choice to fight Williams instead of Cotto.
"The main factor for me was the title. I earned my title in the ring and I didn't want to lose it like that," said Margarito, who would have been stripped of his version of the 147-pound crowd had he faced Cotto instead of Williams. "I had to fight this guy because he was my mandatory. Maybe I should have gone straight to Cotto. There's nothing I can do about it now. I was very confident I could beat Paul Williams. Things didn't turn out the way I had hoped. But I'm right back on track, so I'm looking forward to this fight and then fighting the [Cotto-Mosley] winner and maybe Paul Williams down the road."

HaHA.. Yeah, I'm impressed. :wank: Bob Arum talked Margarito into it. I could dig up proof of that but I don't give a mother****. Noooooo Bob Arum had nothing to do with it. Top Rank wasn't involved at all. :wank:

You didn't answer my question. But judging by the way you responded you were trying to start and argument, and not have a discussion. You want me to try and make you look bad, bro? I'm good at that. Let me know, anytime.

I doubt Margarito will pull out of a fight with Cotto. Cotto's gonna win though.

What question didn't I answer? I'm not sure what I did to offend you, that wasn't my intention, but if you feel the need to extract revenge by making me "look bad", so be it.

You asked me if I was implying Margarito ducked Miguel Cotto for someone like Paul Williams. I said I don't know why Margarito pulled out of the fight, only that he pulled out.

You also asked me what do I think occurred? Again, I didn't know what occurred.
