I warned you people not to bet on Woods!

That said, I was surprised by the lack of heart he showed. I knew he didn't have that much ability, but I presumed from seeing him fight in the past that he'd have the heart to make it a close fight.

I made a lot of money last night betting on Tarver to beat Woods on points, Cotto to beat Gomez by KO/TKO, Margarito to beat Cintron by KO/TKO and Dawson to beat Johnson on points in an accumulater bet. I wish I'd put more money on it now.

Woods was just an average figher with a belt. Boxing is full of em. As Enzo Calzaghe correctly said, a Woods/Calzaghe fight would be one of the easiest in Joe's career. Oh well. Woods that blew the best payday he would have had in front of 50,000.

      Credit to Tarver.

And I don't need to listen to that funeral story, that usually motivates ppl to do good when they lose someone close. Just like buster douglass did when he fought tyson. Clinton Woods is the same joke who thought he could compete with the likes of Calzaghe. Calzaghe probably would have floored him hard
You're being an absolute idiot here. I maybe only know 3 or 4 people who could even name Clinton Woods as being a champion. He did exceptionally well to get himself a belt as he's barely on that level whatsoever. He's not overrated, he's rated as exactly what he was (ie a transitional belt holder).

Who are you to say how the death of a friend would affect someone? Is there a tried and tested scientifically proven formula where death makes boxers fight better? Dont be so ******. Its no excuse, because Woods would've been the favourite to lose regardless, he was fighting a better fight. Woods is normally more game than that though, he puts up more of a fight. Maybe the death affected him, maybe he just choked under the big lights like usual. who is to say?

Woods was another english joke fighter. Americans always beat english fighters in the states. Hatton was the biggest hype job. Now the english limies only have witter and Haye left.
As an American I will give Calzaghe props if he wins next week but he ain't an english limey ,he's Welsh. That fights got nothing to do with the english so the frauds can't crow about the result.

You realise that Wales is part of Britain don't you? Do you also realise that England is part of Britain? Hence, Calzaghe is British, whether fighting under the flag or not. It's like me saying someone from Texas isn't fighting for America, he's fighting for Texas. Calzaghe knows he has English fans anyway and he respects them. When he says 'I'm fighting for Wales, not England' that's because he's proud to be Welsh, not because he hates England.

Tarver had a very good night. He's not exactly a pushover.. Tarver has a way of making you run in to his shots, he was a horrible style matchup for the overtly erect, penetrating Woods. Bad, awful matchup style wise.

Clinton was using his instincts. During the first few series he was playing it cautious and his face was clean. Towards the end of the fight his face was mashed up. It's not like Woods didn't sacrifice. He tried.

I'm glad I put some money on Tony. A couple of my drinkin partners thought Kermit might get the upset. I hate Tarver but I couldn't bring myself to bet on Woods, and neither could anybody else I know.

Sounds like he will retire now, i didnt see the fight but to me in the build up i saw i that Woods thought it was make or break time. Im not sure he has been overated as he was still underdog fair play to hm he went and over there and tried and came up short so what thats life i dont know why people try belittling others who are actually doing somthign with their lives!?

I am yet to see the fight, I thankfully decided to watch the HBO card, but what I am hearing about Woods performance is quite a shock to me. Words like "bottler" have been used to describe him last night and this is not the Clinton Woods us fans in the UK have become accustomed to over the past few years.

In his trilogy with Johnson, although many thought he lost all 3, Woods showed alot of aggression as he often bullied the bull Johnson back. He has never been the most active fighter when it comes to punch output, but he usually does work the body and get plenty of hooks in, this does not sound like the case last night. Clinton would be the first to say he is not the most talented boxer around, but he always prided himself on his willingness to mix it up and I if he did not do this last night Clinton will be the first to lambast himself.

As for some of the posters in this thread who bring nationality into it, go **** yourselves. How about giving Woods some credit for leaving the comfort of Sheffield and travelling to the US to fight Tarver in his home town. I am not too sure where Woods goes from here. I would recommend he retires. He has had a good career, but after last night he has reached the end. Fair play to Tarver, he isn't as shot as everyone thought and also shows what a special fighter Hopkins is. Tarver is still a **** though.
