Cotto tends to throw his hands down ALOT when he throws a 2-4 punch combo then moves back.... Then moves side to side for no reason, right there is the chance to throw lead right hands. Watch any of his fights and you will see what im talking about.

When he throws body shots he has his right hand covering his right side of the face while his left is suspect for a right hook or uppercut.

As for uppercuts... This is Cotto's weakness. I don't see why Mosley didn't use as many. If Cotto is going to get KO'ed its gonna be because of a uppercut which splits the guard.

That's just a few.. I've been watching this dude fight since he turned pro. Yea I was young, but I rewatched all of the fights. Yea... im a fan.
This is very good technical insight, I have to say I'm impressed.

Or a lucky one, or an elite one, or anyone. This is that sport.

Gomez has a multitude of qualities that will give Cotto problems. I can assure you of that. Don't take my word for it though.

yea but remember every fighter has flaws and as a spectator u can see them but to exploit them while your in the ring fighting the guy is another story thats why i say it would have to be an elite fighter to exploit them

I'm shocked by both sides here; the people that think Cotto has no flaws and also the people who think Gomez, with all of his, really has much of a chance. I'm not really a fan of Cotto. I like him well enough, but I can't see Gomez finishing the fight on his feet. I mean, I would be baffled- simply astonished- if Miguel doesn't get something like a 5th-7th round TKO/KO.

Gomez was able to put away an ancient Gatti; what the hell else has he done? Ben Tackie? What, really, has the man accomplished?

Cotto just knocked out Zab Judah last year; was able to box with a Sugar Shane Mosley that still looked to possess skills. If those two men couldn't abuse the flaws Cotto has....I'm at a loss why the limited Gomez is supposed to be able to.

Plus, those people picking Gomez keep trying to stress what Cotto does wrong that he can exploit- not even mentioning what Cotto does right that he can't defend against.

Like I said solid pressure from Cotto who starts out slow, methodical, and ends up putting Gomez away somewhere around the early part of mid-fight...5th-7th round.

Njord, you're shocked to hear someone say Miguel Cotto has flaws? You haven't studied him probably like Mech, myself, and Undefeated.. But really? No flaws in your mind?

No, my friend, you read my post wrong. I'm shocked by the people that: A.) Think Miguel Cotto has no flaws because he clearly does. But also by B.) The people that think Gomez stands a rat's chance to be the one to exploit them. I think both groups are delusional.

For the record I would also like to point out that Miguel Cotto is a strong, undefeated champion who has recently been facing world-class opposition. Both his fights last year were against dangerous boxers, who most rate very highly. Gomez has attempted to throw around his size - fought a total shell of a man in Arturro Gatti- and besides that has not been as active. Those first few rounds are going to be quite telling; one man has been fighting elite competition, the other is stepping into the ring with an elite- and is, by no means, prepared to deal with it. The fight will begin slow, Cotto will show his class is on another level from Gomez's, and then he'll start putting on the steady pressure. Again- 5th-7th round TKO/KO for Cotto. Try to remember how the recent opposition of both men will also factor into the early part of this fight.

On paper Judah and Mosley look great. The fights themselves were another story. forget about the low blows, Judah threw 1.5 punches a round for some reason. That's utterly ridiculous.

Mosley look absolutely awful at different points throughout the fight with Cotto. He pawed with jabs, hooks, and uppercuts that couldn't break glass, backed straight out allowing himself to be hit easily, and threw a couple of desperation right hands that all landed high on the head, whilst wrestling around in somewhat, slightly impressive fashion.. Now Shane is exhibiting symptoms of a grumpy old man syndrome.. But again, it looks good on paper.

Take it from a guy betting on Gomez; I feel much better about this guy's chances. At least he's not likely to come up a bum horse, and I'll get his full effort.. That's all I ask!
