Let me tell you, Cotto wants money. Just like you. Just like Floyd.

With respect to the two points above Hearns-Leonard is a closer comparison, both prime, and Hearns had a much weaker resume than Leonard when they fought.
I cant argue that...but my intentions were basing this on their styles. Thats what I meant. I should have been a little bit more specific.

      Good post.

Cotto is going to defeat a few more of the top contenders in the Welterweight Division, and then Floyd will have two choices: Fight Cotto, or retire for good. I suppose he could surrender his title to Miguel, or simply keep fighting guys in other weight classes, but this is the fight that the whole world wants, and this would be the line. Cotto isn't ducking anybody, and he'll fight the best in his class. He wants to be a reigning Welterweight Champion, and Floyd will stand in that path of destruction.

Cotto is setting it up so that Mayweather will either finally take the fight, or flat-out admit he wants no part of him. This is supreme intelligence by Cotto.

I agree I think. Cotto doesn't think he needs Floyd and to get respect perhaps not. I do think Floyd is his gateway to mega paydays.

Floyd said in multiple interviews that he plans to unify the WW division, so he's letting Cotto collect all of the belts so that when he steps into the ring with Cotto it will be for all the belts

Cotto needs Floyd if he wants a big payday, and a shot at the throne. Honestly, i dont see Cotto as the type of fighter who makes a big deal about paydays. Of course he wants to get paid, what boxer doesnt, but i dont see him turning down a big opportunity just because he's making (for example) 10mil instead of 15mil.

Floyd needs Cotto if he wants to regain some respect as a fighter. Currently, he is being HEAVILY criticized by everybody in the boxing world, due to his reluctance to face the top fighters in his own division, and his desire to rematch both Oscar and Hatton.

Floyd: "im not planning on calling out ANY WW's. I've done what i had to do in the sport of boxing"

Those were his exact words during the post fight interview with Larry Merchant, following his win over Hatton.

Yes, but that doesnt have to be all he wants, as it isnt all that I want. The man should make the money, money shouldn't make the man. And it isnt like Cotto is getting paid with rocks unless he fights Mayweather either.

So why doesn't he give up the belt?
