Cotto doesn't need Mayweather, its the other way around. Mayweather needs Cotto, so he beat Hatton and Frijoles de la Hoya. Mayweather needs to prove he is capable to beat a real champ like Miguel!

He already did that. Where were you when 23 year old Mayweather fought and beat down undefeated p4p king Corrales? Mayweather isn't a true WW, never forget that, it's only natural his resume doesn't look as good in that category (even though i'm sure you'd consider it good for another fighter, lets say katsidis , having both 43-0 Hatton and De la Hoya in it).

Fact is no one sees Cotto as the best boxer, he doesn't even crack the top 5. But if he keeps on winning that will change and so will his appeal. So Floyd will get his $$$ with Cotto's new marketability and Cotto will get a shot at being da man and we da fans get to be happy and moist. It's the win win...P4P baby!

I definitely agree. I'm a PBF fan but if Floyd doesn't fight cotto within the next 2 years I will be royally pissed. A win against cotto will definitely seal his legacy and legitimize his ww reign.
I like cotto but i don't think he can beat floyd. Floyd has longer reach, faster, and a way better boxer. Cotto has a lot of heart, he's strong but his chin is questionable.
Hatton did not have to chase Mayweather, he had his opportunity and he turned it down, so did SSM, but after floyd became p4p everyone started calling him out

I disagree, I believe if Cotto went the same route as Mayweather and fought De La Hoya and Hatton, those fights would make huge money. I just think Cotto wants to rule the welterweight devision, and fighting those guys wont get that done. I think Cotto has just as big a fan base as Floyd has, do a poll and i bet it's close to 50/50.
