    ***Paulie Malignaggi v. Ricky Hatton***

We've already voted in the thread as to who we will root for...

but in this thread i want to know WHO they think WILL WIN.

not just who they will root for.

im rooting for paulie but not sure who will actually win.

in my opinion it really is purely a "pickem" fight and will come down to who can impose their style on who.

    For paulie to win:

he has to keep hatton at the end of his jab; stick and move
force hatton to box him and not get into a brawl with hatton
use his quick hands to land jabs and counter ricky's shots (ricky tends to leap in with punches...paulie needs to slip those punches; get off a quick one two and get back out)

    for hatton to win:
sucker paulie into a brawl (this heavily favors hatton who is a better inside fighter with much more power)
work paulie's body (slow paulie down to hatton's speed)
jab coming in and going out (paulie is the superior boxer who will pick hatton apart if he doesnt operate behind a good jab)

    paulie pros:
    quicker/faster (hands and feet)
    the superior boxer (no doubt)
    has a better jab

    hatton pros:
    fights better on the inside
much much much better body puncher
    has much more power

who do you think wins the fight (not who you're rooting for)

    opinions? analysis? thoughts?

and by the way...Boxing Scene should give me a job right? haha

I saw Paulie at the gym today, his left eye has a nasty scar from the Ngoudjo fight. It could use a few months of healing, but then again I'm no doctor.

well i think its may 24th that his next fight is...its a ndou rematch on the undercard of hatton's tune up fight.

if they both win (which in all likelyhood they will) they will face off after that...

I see this being somewhat like the Cotto fight, but a bit closer. Paulie would box more, be able to control Hatton with his jab, but not for the whole fight. Ricky eventually starts to work Paulie's body when he gets inside, and ends up winning a decision, probably a Majority Decision.

wow...people think hatton by a decision so far...its early in the poll but damn.

i thought the two most probable scenarios is either a paulie decision or a hatton knockout.

thats the way i see it going is one or the other...

but i cant see hatton by decision or paulie by knockout.

infact i think its hard to get a decision over paulie to be honest...especially for hatton.

I think that Hatton will stop Paulie, Malignaggi was very brave against Cotto but Cotto is not as fast on his feet and throws less leather.

Paulie really will have to stick and move and attempt to jab his way to victory. Forget any notions of landing anything else other than the occasional straight right hand. Hatton has to force a fight and get inside.

Malignaggi has faster hands and is better at a distance
Hatton has faster feet, considerably more power and is very aggressive.

Hatton does what Cotto couldn't and stops Paulie after 9 increasingly one sided rounds.

I know, but if you recall the first N'Dou fight, Malignaggi was a little bit busted up facially (though the action in the fight doesn't exactly reflect that). If that cut opens up, which is a possibility, that could nix a Hatton fight.

Well, I'm not a Malignaggi fan, but lately I'm starting to come around a bit more. I still don't really like his attitude all that much, but I'm coming around. He's got skills, nobody can debate that.

Personally, the fact that he didn't get KO'd against Cotto tells me Ricky might not be able to KO him. However, I DO think he has a better shot at KO'ing Paulie than Cotto did, simply because Cotto was really drained making weight. Even though Ricky puts on a lot of pounds inbetween fights, he never seems to have trouble making weight, at least that I know of.

That being said, Ricky will try to smother Paulie, work his body on the inside, and with him being stronger at the weight than Cotto, I think he has a better shot of KO'ing him, but because I think Paulie will box more, the idea of a Hatton KO seems to be a bit of a reach, though not by much. Ricky will continually come forth and be stronger in the later rounds, and I think he'll win based on his aggression and work on the inside.

I'm not really a Hatton fan, but he has become quite underrated since the Mayweather fight. Suddenly people think he's average. Personally i think as long as he is quick on his feet, cuts the ring down well, and goes to the body, Malignaggi would get his arse kicked. The only question for me is about how much punishment Paulie can take, decision or KO? Because of the Cotto fight i say decision. Hatton would need to be totally shot for Paulie to win IMO.
