Calzaghe: "I Will Retire Hopkins For Good"

If you where Taylor would you be embarrassed about getting your ass smacked all over the ring in the last half of the fight and explain why you look like the loser at the press conference promising to do better in the rematch. Not exactly a good way to win a title from a 40 year old man old enough to be your father is it?
To use the same logic as another member here, Taylor was green at the time he fought Hopkins. Those were only his 23rd and 24th pro fights. I think he did well and deserves credit for two pretty big achievements. Again, no, I wouldn't be embarrassed if I'd beaten Hopkins twice, no matter how I did it. I would be embarrassed if I'd only managed to land two punches on Taylor in the first round of the rematch. Who's to say Hops would win if he fought Taylor again? Some people just have your number, and it looks like Jermain has Bernard's. Not to worry, even the great SRR lost 25 times.Comment

As a British man like Joe Calzaghe, I want to see Joe Calzaghe beat this racist Hopkins and show him just what a "white boy" can do.
However, I feel that Hopkins will inflict on Joe his first ever defeat of his career.
I know that Joe has been a World Champion for well over a decade and has fought and beaten six World Champions, but he has a much smaller frame than Hopkins, who is of course the Ring Light Heavyweight Champion of the World. He also does not have as much experience as Hopkins does at Light Heavyweight, which admittedly is quite limited.Comment

I kinda dissagree with that. Jones still brings the payday in a fight with Calzaghe. Either in the UK or the US. Note: I did not say bring the fans. I said bring the payday. I know that Calzaghe will have more fans in the UK (by far) and Jones will have more anywhere here in the good ol' US of A. But it doesn't change the fact that Jones was a star when calzaghe was just an ametuer and Calzaghe didnt start really getting paid until he beat Lacy 15 years after Jones was the best P4P.Comment

I really doubt that he retires win or lose, especially if he loses. Just adds to the drama and the turnout of the fight. Look at what DeLaHoya and Mayweather have done here recently for a reference.Comment

Bernard wanted to dominate 160 as to Joe at 168. I believe the timing is perfect for these 2 fighting this year. Maybe Bernard didn't wanna move up or Joe didn't wanna move down, so now we have both men fighting at 175 which is fitting for both men right now in point of their careers. They've accomplished defending their titles 20+ times in their respected weight class. Plus Bernard wanted pay days and was probably waiting for Oscar to move up. Bernard PICKS his battles, he knows how to pick his battles wisely and he now is picking on Joe. And Joe finally gets what he wants in a fight with Hopkins. The timing is just right for both men seeing this fight is a win-win as far as their ego n confidence goes. Can't ask for more.Last edited by RisAri0; 04-10-2008, 05:05 PM.Comment
