if that fight was on ABC instead of hbo or ppv would the ratings be good and would it help people believe boxing is still exciting watchin the fight?
If PACQUIAO vs DAVID DIAZ was on ABC would it get good ratings?

the days of boxing being mainstream is no longer unfortunately.
it'll do okay but not great. it's cheaper for the network to do cheap reality tv. -
i think so.
it would definately be higher than the ppv numbers...
why?
well not EVERYONE buys the ppv...some watch with friends; some cant afford so they stream it and others either cant afford it or arent interested enough to actually buy it.
if its free for all to see than everyone with the slightest interest will at least tune in to see how its going and if its any good and casual fans will tune in because pacquiao is a big name (or maybe because they heard about him or diaz and want to check it out).
so yes...
whatever the ppv numbers would be...plus a lot more...
same goes for de la hoya/mayweather...if the first fight was on ABC the numbers would be MUCH MUCH MUCH higher...Comment

no matter how high the ratings are it's not cost effective for the networks. that's why boxing went to ppv for the big money bouts.i think so.

think of it...... they're gonna have to pay floyd and oscar millions as well as the undercard boxers for one night? i doubt it even wins top ratings for that night.Comment

oscar v. floyd? yes it does...
even the tyson v. holyfield fight could (just on their names alone).
it couldnt be on ABC (or the like networks) for every fight that would be ppv...but a good 4 fights a year or so would be big enough to take top rating for the night easily...Comment

If you took out the undercards and had just the main event on national tv then casual sports fans just flipping channels will flip to 2 guys beating the living **** out of each other just as if not harder than anything on ufc. For sure football fans will be intrigued by the purity of violence enough to put the remote down. It would get good enough ratings to influence the possibility of making good enough matchups 4 future network bouts.no matter how high the ratings are it's not cost effective for the networks. that's why boxing went to ppv for the big money bouts.

ah good point.
I think this is true also like you said thats why they went to ppv because if you think about it in order to get good ratings on Network tv you have to pass the 10 million mark.
The biggest boxing ppv only does 2.4 million.
and those reality shows get like 20-30 million viewers like american idol and dancing with the stars and they are dirt cheap to fund, and get big millions in return from sponsored commercials.Comment

I think it would do decent. Saturdays are notoriously slow televison nights. It all depends what is up against on other networksComment

No, mainstream America doesn't care that much about Pacquiao and has never even heard of David Diaz. Of course it would be relative to the networks expectations. To get a fight with some ratings impact, you'd need something like Mayweather-Hatton.Comment
