i know not ONE person who continuously buys the PPV's of a fighter they hate just to watch them lose. that is a ridiculous notion.

thats true, its disguised as becoming fans of the "other guy". People were acting like Ricky Hatton was their favorite fighter when they had only seen him on 24/7, same thing i expect when the Cotto fight happens if it ever does, people will continue to jump on the bandwagon of whoever is fighting Floyd. They wont buy it to see him lose or they wont admit that, they buy it because they are now a "fan" of the other guy.

i really find it hard to believe that casual fans are interested enough in boxing just to buy the PPV and root for the guy that Floyd is fighting. And casual fans are the key market. again, i know not one casual fan that would even bother. you may, but i'm pretty much around people who bought DLH/Mayweather I and didnt even bother to recognize Mayweather/Hatton.

yeah but only if the other guy has a decent chance of winning.

i think floyd is the greatest p4p right now but i don't buy his ppv.

his opponents are just outclassed by him. i watched him fight corrales , de la hoya , judah and hatton though. i thought corrales (at the time at 130 was a monster) and the bigger de la hoya could beat him. i thought judah's speed could give him a run and i thought hatton might surprise me like he did against tszyu. "hater" fanbase can only go so far. sometimes you can be the best in the game but never have a huge fanbase. holmes in his prime is a good example.

the color Blue is called Blue because the vast majority of people decided it's going to be called Blue.

the definition of the word Fan is the one that appears in the dictionary for the same reason.

If you have a different definition for what a Fan is, it's like saying you can want to call the color Green, Blue because "is your right" like you say.

It is your right. Still.... you would be DEAD WRONG.

a Fan is a fan. Blue is Blue. and Green is Green.

Floyd's more Popular, it's doesn't mean he has a larger Fan Base.

I don't care what lifestyle any boxer lives, it's what they do in the ring that i take into account. Although he is not the most exciting boxer out there....what he accomplishes in the ring makes me a fan. Not a die-hard one......if he fought a boxer i like more, i would route for the other. Simple.

Being more popular then Cotto gives him more fans and haters (probably more of the latter)....everyone has an opinion on the most popular people.

That being said...if Cotto/Mayweather happened, Cotto will have more fans stemming from the fact that all Mayweather haters cheer for his opponent.

I think we all get the meaning of the word, "FAN." i think what this post is simply asking is, basicly if Mayweather and Cotto were both sitting in the same shopping mall in Wichita, Kansas, which one would get asked to sign the most autographs??

I cant answer that. I do think that if you just go by PPV #'s that doesnt tell the whole story. Floyd had the benefit of having GREAT PPV dance partners. I think Cotto can hold his own in that category. I think DLH/Cotto or Cotto/Hatton do similar or better numbers because I suspect Cotto has more supporters than Mayweather. I could be wrong... Wouldnt be the 1st time... All speculation...
