when do you gain and lose respect for a fighter?

When do you gain respect for a fighter? Also when do you lose respect for a fighter?
I gain respect for a fighter when i see them trying to fight decent compitition and trying there best.
Fighting with alot of heart to and never giving up a bit like felix trinidad i became a fan when i saw the roy jones jr v trinidad fight funny enough but i dont even think that should of happened anyway i lost a little bit respect for roy when he took that confidence boost and started boasting to much cause trinidad cudnet hurt him didnt show alot of respect that he shud of to me.

When a boxer shows HEART, it gains them respect. And not just by digging in their and finding a way to win, sometimes losing a fight can do more for your imagine then winning (lot's of people started to like Malignaggi after he took a lot of punishment from Cotto for example).

When a boxer doesn't know when it hang 'em up, you sometimes lose respect for them. Holyfield, for example, I just cant take him seriously anymore. Sometimes it's just sad though (the ones that keep fighting because they need the money).

When a boxer is a sore loser, also is a classic case of losing respect. And on the flip side, if a fighter is respectful after winning it can help (for a brief moment there Mayweather gained a few fans by being respectful to Ricky Hatton after the fight, but then quickly lost it in the following months!).

When a fighter shows heart and tries his hardest is one, i never liked Jermain taylor, but after the fights with pavlik i have respect for him

When someone takes on the best opposition available is another, but that rarely occurs..

I loose respect when a fighter puts on a "shannon briggs" type performance, and puts in no effort

I tend to garner respect around fighters who have that rare ability to sing-it is just something Im drawn too.

On the flip side if a fighter is out having sex with 12 and 13 year old girls more times then not you will see them drop on my credibility scale.

I gain respect for fighters who never give up, who train hard, who display amazing boxing ability, who are graceful in defeat and who are modest overall.

I lose respect for fighters who are ****y, who are sore losers and/or won't give credit where credit is due, who make excuses, and who don't place boxing as their number one priority.

when they act like the fans need them.
one reason I've always been a tito fan was he fought the best, regardless how things turned out or what people think of him whether he's one dimensional or what,he fought the best.very few people in boxing history fought the quality opponents tito did.
he needed the fans, you saw him after every entrance enjoying,he was a fighter.and sadly he still might be.
