    Joe Calzaghe-Clinton Woods Verbal Deal

A verbal deal has been reached for an all-UK clash between undisputed super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe and IBF light heavyweight champion Clinton Woods. Promoters Dennis Hobson (Woods) and Frank Warren (Calzaghe) came to a deal, but their fighters would need to win their upcoming bouts to make the fight a reality.

Woods will be Calzaghe last opponent? Why?

It would be a very nice win for Calzaghe to end his career, if he so chooses. Think about it, he would be partially unifying the light-heavyweight division after wins against an all-time great in Hopkins and then a UK-great in Woods. After 21 defenses at 168, that's pretty solid.

It is a HUGE event in the UK, that is the biggest reason. It probably gets him more money than the fight with Hopkins will, because of live gate and what not. It also, in my opinion, is probably the "safest" name opponent for him out there to fight to end his career.

If he beats Hopkins and then Woods, however, there will be boatloads of money coming at him to fight the Dawson-Johnson winner, if the winner of that fight has not lost to anyone by the time of the Cal-Woods fight.

Oh, and let's not forget RJJ. I would imagine a career-ending clash against Jones in the UK would be spectacular, too.

You make some good points but a fight with Pavlik or Jones would make him a lot of money as well.

I kind of think he'll end up fighting Pavlik at 168 in the end. If he doesn't, I'll be somewhat dissappointed.

I would like to see Woods fight RJJ at LHW and then for the winner of that fight to be Joe's final fight.

In the meantime Joe could maybe fight Pavlik at 168 to make that his final SMW defence. Pavlik has said he wants that fight and thats got to be one of the biggest money fights Joe could take for later this year.

Joe saying he will retire after 2 fights isn't saying much, I think he will be fighting for the next 2 years if the big fights keep coming.
