It's a fight that's really 6 years too late. It's big for Calzaghe (but ALL of his fights are now that he wants to retire with only one good win on his resume)

I'm not suggesting that The Blow's career is stellar, or that it couldn't have been better, but it does crack me up when ****** little punk Yank kids who don't know anything beyond Showtime and boxrec say that Joe only has one or two good names on his ledger.

hopkins beat tarver, i think you're mistaken with taylor, who by the way got two gifts from hbo and their hand picked judges.............. taylor did not take a way hopkins belts, not in the sense of what you have to do to take the belts away from the reigning champion at least........ total gifts. taylor was out landed by hopkins, i know for sure in the first fight and i think he eeked him out by a smaller margin in the second fight, but none the less, hopkins did beat tarver.........................real bad too.........

This fight has picked apart in excruciating detail on this forum, with the consensus seeming to swing back and forth almost at random.

First of all Calzaghe was a heavy favourite, then people started wondering aloud whether Hopkins roughhouse tactics might be too much for him. Next came another swing back to Calzaghe, with a backlash against Hopkins age.

Since then every aspect of each of the fighters games has at various times taken on the status of unbeatable weapon. Joe's handspeed, Bernard's counter right, culminating today in an analysis of Bernard's devastating footwork!

It's too much! The analysis of this fight requires only one thing:

"Plain and basic common sense"

Bernard Hopkins is 43 years old and is demonstrably no longer the fighter he used to be.

Joe Calzaghe has looked better with each of his recent performances and is younger, stronger and faster.

Everything points to a Joe Calzaghe win.

That is all.

well he is the favorite, right?...everything you said is why the odds are stacked against the executioner...however, I'm still going with a B-Hop win only because of his track record...

Hopkins beat the **** out of Tarver. That's Taylor you are thinking of.

And Kessler being better then Tarver or Wright is debateable, but it was definietly the riskier fight.

Good posts. I agree totally. Apparently Joe has never been in a fight in his career and Winky Wright was not carrying 20lbs of blubber.

Likewise Kessler is a bum and Tarver is world class.

have u atually ever watched the fight or are u extremely biased ,Hopkins never Destroyed him at all ,Tarver was'nt even hurt by the knockdown infact it was more to do with the fact he got caught square on ,at the end of the round it is Hopkins who is on the backfoot not Tarver

there was about 5 punches in the whole fight ,took about overstating the win "Destroyed him "
