hes fast and powerful with a good workrate but he doesnt have a good enough defence or a good enough chin to go to unifying a division or winnin titles in 3 weightclasses etc. if he had a good defence and a bad chin or the other way around he might have a chance but having neither is dangerous as you are nearly assured of getting knocked out by a hard accurate puncher....

I really think Amir Khan is an amazing talent, he's got a lot of speed and power at his young age with some pretty decent footwork too.

The defence will come in time, but it's not actually that bad, he has only really been shook that one time, just happened he got knocked down too. Hell of a comeback though sent the O2 arena crowd crazy.

Just from seeing his natural skills, I would have to say that the kid has a bright future. I guess time will tell.
I think he's being pushed far too fast. AFAIAC there is no shame in hanging around and developing your craft until 23 or 24. All this talk of record-breaking achievements is just insane and probably not doing the kid any good.

As for where he'll end up. At worst he'll win a belt of some description. At best - I don't know. His potential is up near the stars. Whether he realises it is up to him and his team I guess.

Aside from his undeniable natural ability, he also seems like a really humble, down to Earth kid(which is always nice to see. IMO).
He talks the talk but signs are that he'll walk the walk at the top level in years to come, he's a young kid with a bright future so why shouldn't he be confident in his skills?
I agree he needs to start fighting a higher level of opponent though, until this happens we won't know for sure how far he can go.

You have to ask yourself tho, why fight someone if you know one will win. I'm not saying he is on the level of the top 5 but he sure needs to fight jon thaxon after this fight, then i think he should still not go for a title but i don't agree he should fight bums for the rest of his days like hatton. If khan is trying to do what Tyson did and learn in the ring then, yes but his opposition should not be of a low standard.

I'm not suggesting he fight bums. Far from it. But there's nothing wrong with developing your craft in the ring against solid fighters outside the top-10 list. There are plenty of good pros out there who'll make a fight competitive and teach the kid a thing or two without putting him at high risk.

He's got a good maybe 10 years left in this game. Why rush to achieve that which isn't going away any time soon?

Wasn't there talk of a Thaxton-Khan fight a little while ago. I seem to remember the reason it didn't go ahead was because Thaxton's people withdrew from the purse bids. Correct me if i'm wrong.
                    or
Was it because he already had the Romanov fight in the works?

To me, Khan certainly looks to have the ability to take a title at lightweight, but we don't know if that ability will be converted into titles.

When I compare him to the other lightweight fighters, I can easily envisage fights in which he blows virtually any of them away. Bascally, at his best he might be too big, too powerful and too quick for any of them. Equally if things didn't go his way, I could see him getting KO'd in a war by Katsidis or outsmarted and counterpunched in a tactical battle with Casamyor.

I really hope he does it though, because he must be one of the most naturally gifted fighters to come along in a long time. If he can do it at lightweight I don't see any reason why he can't go on to multi-division titles. He's almost too big for lightweight now.
