  • Amir Khan, does he have next?

I've been hearing alot about this kid lately. I have seen some vids on youtube and he does have boxing talent. Is this kid as good as advertised or is he just another young over hyped fighter?

It's too early to say... the potential is huge, but so too is the hype. Let's judge when he's beaten a couple of world class operators.

I think he's good enough to win a minor world title, but i dont think he is going to be a headline in boxing history. He has fast hands and feet but tends to have defensive deficiencies. I think he will lose when he faces a durable guy with power. He was nearly knocked out by a fringe contender in Willie Limond. People say he can learn but i dont feel so confident. He's good but lacks the chin to be great.

His problem is that he can be hit, he has almost every attribute apart from a good chin and defensive reflexes like a roy jones or even hamed.

Did very well to recover and win the fight though, that's what champions are made of.

Khan's barely started growing into adulthood. It's totally unreasonable to think he should have a watertight defence by now.

I agree that he gets tagged just a bit too often. But he has improved - a lot - in the last year. Certainly his guard is a lot higher now.

"He doesn't have the defensive reflexes of Roy Jones" - well I guess that puts him with 99.99% of all the boxers who have ever thrown a punch in anger. Aside from Mayweather, how many other belt-holders (at any weight) are similarly gifted?

Yes, Hamed did have amazing reflexes. But Hamed was nowhere near as accurate as Khan is right now.

As for Khan's chin - it remains to be seen. As the quote goes - there's nothing wrong with going down, as long as you don't stay down. It's also worth pointing out that Khan is still maturing physically. The Khan that was put down by Limond bears little resemblance to the physical specimen he is now.

Let's give the kid a chance. He's blessed with attributes most boxers would sell their souls for. If there are rough edges it means he's human like the rest of us.

Good post. The reason that this thread came about was because he seems to be moving pretty fast. He said that he is looking to be world champ at lightweight by his birthday this year which is late December. From his rap sheet he has NOT fought the best opposition but he IS still young. Just from seeing his natural skills, I would have to say that the kid has a bright future. I guess time will tell.

I voted that in the FUTURE he win titles in more than one weight division....I could be wrong, but I hope I'm right. I love to see pure boxers with exceptional, artistic talent.
