The shocking facts of where Bernard Hopkins grew up

Oh, OK. I visted the twins, Tiger and Rock, and their dad once a few years ago at the Happy Hollow. Then the next day we met in the morning at Champ's to get some sparring in. LOVED that gym, reminded me a lot of the gym in Rocky 3 that Apollo took Rocky to so that he could get the "Eye of the Tiger" back.

Germantown is one of the more peaceful and affluent neighborhoods in Philadelphia. Bill Cosby is from there as well, as was Sun Ra. White collar workers outnumber blue collar workers by about 9/2. The median income is over $40,000/ year.
Crime rates are some of the lowest in the city.
I didn't grow up in the roughest "hood" either, but even I grew up in a tougher Philly neighborhood than Hopkins did, with higher crime rates and lower median income. So I can't help but laugh when he refers to his tough background: he's a middle class kid! Sure he went to prison, but anyone can do that.
He's built a false image on being "street." But it's not him. Sorry if you thought he would be too "street" for Calzaghe or anyone else, but you have the wrong guy.

This is just setting facts straight, as far as his PR stunt about having had a tough childhood and overcoming obstacles.
It ain't so. Otherwise carry on. I didn't see this as such an important topic, though for some reason posters have trouble accepting that Hopkins is not who they think he is as far as his past is concerned
the fact of the matter is he spent five years in a Penitentary. I dont think 100% of people on this board or from life in general want to go through that . If you dont have a picture of what it is like in there check out a fellow Philly Native named Beanie Siegal's firsts cd track # 11 What ya life like ..... He paints a pretty good picture of the situation. Alot of times the Pen dont change people for the better . It makes them worse .

Let's keep this post running. It's interesting to see fellow boxingscene members being duped.
The statistical demographics that are inquestion are based on statistics from 2005.... It would be fair to state that Germantown has been through a gentrification or "transitional period WHEN THINGS CHANGE > influencing the economical and social structure. Surely the economy nor the populaton of the 1980's would not be as that of 2005 or in any place for that matter.
This is like some one saying the Statistics (Poulation, Economy,Income level, ethnic groups, etc.) of South Bronx of 2005 is similiar that of the 1980's. > That would be FALSE INFORMATION.

so...........22 pages on a guy's street address. wow. i need to send this **** to golden boy promotions, bernie's office.
who gives a **** where he came from. most guys like to run a con on where they grew up as means of a psychological edge. like the schoolboys fear playground bullies. type of **** that says, i been there, done that, and was playing with gun in my hand, while you were refilling your milk bottle from your mothers ****. it's old. personally i dont give a **** where he came from. your backround tells you about demographics, and you decide whether you're comfortable with them. i can say this much, hopkins true realization came in the pen not when he was robbin nickels from someone with a bb gun.

A dozen neighborhoods - Fairhill, Tioga, Mantua, Kingsessing, Hunting Park, East Germantown and parts of North Philadelphia - are besieged by violent crime. Rates of murder, **** and robbery are twice as high as for the city as a whole, and 15 times as high as in the city's safest neighborhoods.
