Thats not a good comparison that you would want to use to tell the outcome of this fight. You couldn't get more different in styles than Reid and Jones. Reid's chin was proven and he didn't mind fighting on the inside. Jones didn't like being hit at all.

Also, when did Calzaghe say that he didn't want a piece of Jones?

I was saying Calzaghe has had problems with counter right hands, Jones doesn't have to stand inside with Calzaghe, he could stay on the outside and use counter right hands to beat Calzaghe IMO.

I saw the video a while back but I haven't been able to find it again.

I think he has learnt with age though and gets up for the big fights more.. He was open to be hit against Byron because he was brought into a slug fest. Watch the Kessler fight and then the Byron fight, Calzaghe has learnt how to keep his head to his left when being hit with the counter right hand.

Perhaps he has, we'll see in the Hopkins fight.

I think that Jones would win on points.

Most people have already covered the reasons why so I won't go into it, but I disagree with people acting as if Toney has an excuse for his loss. The fact is that the losing fighter almost always comes out with an excuse.

I am not 100% certain about this, but I'm pretty sure that most of RJJ's world title fights at 168 and even the early 175 ones were not shown on UK TV. I remember watching the likes of de la Hoya, Quartey, Trinidad and a few other late night fights from the US, but not many of Jones. Because of this I have seen only 6 or 7 of him around that weight at his best, as well as Ruiz, Tarver 2 and Johnson.

My favourite Jones moment was the KO of Virgil Hill. I know beating Griffin meant more to him, but I rate Virgil Hill quite highly (not an ATG but a very solid fighter) and that was that was one of the best body shots I've ever seen.

In my opinion he was about 5%-10% better at LHW. Some fighters lose something stepping up but for him it seemed like LHW was his ideal weight. I was wondering if those who have seen more than me see it that way?

Roy Jones. Styles make fights. I think Roy would outmanouvre and pot-shot Joe en route to a bit of a rough unanimous decision; kinda like the Hopkins fight

You should also know that he was the most active fighter in boxing at the time, so he was doing it on a regular basis. He did it against Nunn, he did it against Barkely. The difference against Jones... was that it was against Jones.

Beat me to the punch Kaynan. I also remember that vid of Cal not wanting a piece of Jones in his prime too. I even read a quote of Cal after Jones first fight with Tarver that Jones seemed "human" after the close win and Cal saying that that gave him the confidence of beating him. A prime Jones & Toney both beat Cal IMO.

Calzaghe was very vocal in the 90s about wanting to fight Roy, he can't be accused of ducking him, and vice versa IMO. And for the record i voted for Roy Jones.

Jones by brutally one sided decision if not KO or TKO.

This fight imo would not even be close. Roy is just far too athletic for Joe.

Calzaghe was very vocal in the 90s about wanting to fight Roy, he can't be accused of ducking him, and vice versa IMO. And for the record i voted for Roy Jones.

But you have to take a look from Jones point of view. He was P4P the #1 fighter in the sport. A well known fighter & multi-division champ & the challenger who's virtually an unknown wants you to come to his backyard overseas & fight him. Of course any boxer would want to be compensated for doing that. Cal was the fighter that needed to establish himself so he should've made more of an effort to fight Jones but he was content to defend his WBO belt at home.
