Of course they are. Kessler was an beaten 39-0 and had two of the major title belts. Kessler also has more top 10 wins than the greatest super middleweight of all time. Jeff Lacy was the favorite in that fight and was the unbeaten IBF/IBO super middleweight champion.


Bernard Hopkins was a green contender at the time that he fought Jones and he fought limited opposition up until that point. James Toney was weight drained before the Jones fight and had to be hooked to IVs before the fight so he wouldn't pass out. He weighed in at 214 LBS 2 weeks before the fight and damn near killed himself to make the 168 LB limit. I and many others would say yes, Calzaghe has fought and beaten the bigger threats. Calzaghe beat these fighters when they was at 100%, in their prime and at their best.

And cut the weight crap. He put on a masterpiece performance against Prince Charles Williams only four months before losing to Jones. And now he was weight drained? Was he weight drained against Jirov too? I mean, he weighed 226 in the fight before that one.

And Jeff Lacy is the epitome of overrated. Whether he was favored or not is irrelevant. The fact is, he beat NOBODY before Calzaghe and NOBODY after. And you have the NERVE to say these guys are better than a prime Toney??

But you have to take a look from Jones point of view. He was P4P the #1 fighter in the sport. A well known fighter & multi-division champ & the challenger who's virtually an unknown wants you to come to his backyard overseas & fight him. Of course any boxer would want to be compensated for doing that. Cal was the fighter that needed to establish himself so he should've made more of an effort to fight Jones but he was content to defend his WBO belt at home.

Absolutely, i understand Roy Jones point of view. I also understand Calzaghes though, he was already established and already considered the best in his division. He wasn't big in America, but he's beaten Lacy and Kessler now, and he's still not big in America. This fight just wasn't going to happen back then, both men seemed to have different(and understandable) goals.

I refuse to believe that an opportunity for Joe to fight Jones didn't come up more then once. 10 years WBO champ!!!!!!!! Am sorry but Roy Jones would not have ignored that and not tried more then once to make that fight happen.
