Is there such a thing as a lucky punch?

I was told today by a fellow member(!!Shawn) on this board there is no such thing as a lucky punch.

    Whats your thoughts?

So Oscars punch with his eyes closed that won him gold at the olympics was not lucky?

Or people getting battered on the ropes, who have one last punch before the fight is stopped, which is landed. Then they win by KO. Is that not lucky?

    Your thoughts.

naw there really isnt. If you study your opponent and know whats gonna happen, if you throw a timed punch whether your eyes are closed or not it wass thrown with strategy behind. Perfect example is Kirk Johnson vs Maskaev.

but he threw the punch with strategy behind it. He had him against the ropes and instead of throwing looping punches, he threw it straight down the pipe. Strategy and skill.

              Lucky punch? No.

              Well timed yes.

If you look at it.. When fighter "mostly top fighter" When they get hurt its because they get caught and they don't see the punch, but the fighter who threw it had intentions of knocking you out.

If you throw something it isn't lucky. You wanted to throw it.

EXACTLY!!!!!! The fighter threw the punch, and the only reason you throw a punch is because you feel the punch would be effective or else you would not have thrown it.

                  That's terrible logic.

No one is debating that THROWING a punch isn't luck.

And based on pure physics, there's no such thing as a lucky punch because physically everything happens for a reason.

But if you just close your eyes and start winging punches without any direct target in sight, and after 50 punches you manage to connect right on the button, you're going to tell me that isn't luck?

well, it depends on what your deffinition is... if you mean that you throw a punch without meaning to do much damage but wind up hurting the guy? yeah, that happens.
