i just dont understand why he doesnt think cotto has a big following. he may not be a huge household name but it would still make a lot of money even right now in my opinion.
Floyd is saying this right now on ESPN.. He said it on Larry King the other night. I have to say - this is an interesting thing for him to say.
Especially considering you could hear a pin drop in the arena when Floyd was scoring cleanly against De La Hoya, getting off, landing punches, doing his thing.. On the flipside people were going ape-**** when De La Hoya was hitting Floyd's gloves, shoulder, and thin air. Any time Oscar did anything the crowd went wild. When Floyd did anything there was virtually no reaction whatsoever. It goes a long way toward explaining why the fight was the event that it was, and who everybody was there to see..
I think some people need to watch that fight again for a reminder. Have another look at it. Just watch the first round if that's all you can stomach.
I think floyd gets a lot less credit than he deserves for the sales amongst people here. i disagree with him when he tries to take full responsibility just because he won, but i think the deserves an equal amount of credit as DLH
Yes oscar was/is the more popular fighter, but it was floyds antics during the national promotion tour, as well as the drama created by 24/7 (which he deserves credit for) which escalated the fight into 2.4 million buys. it was a classic case of hero vs villain, and imo was to a certain point noble of floyd to go along with it during 24/7 despite it being his idea, whether people here want to admit it or not.
id say the lack of response to mayweather's punches is more due to the fact that he was the "bad guy" and oscar was the "good guy"/underdog. Think of the old WWF fights when the bad guy bodyslammed someone like hogan or the rock, vs the reaction when it was the other way around - your not gonna have people cheering or "ooing" when the hero gets hit, unless the other guy is a "good guy" as well

Excellent post, I totally agree - except for the bolded, although I think you don't mean that literally based on the body of what you're saying..
