    Heavyweight Era: Which Team Wins

    PRIME VS. PRIME

If they were on teams... which team would win?

You can match them up anyway you want...
But they can only fight once, each...

    Team 1

    Muhammad Ali
    Joe Frazier
    George Foreman
    Howard Cosell

    Team 2

    Lennox Lewis
    Mike Tyson
    Larry Holmes
    Jim Lampley

**Forgive me for wanting to talk about something other than the Floyd - Cotto **** Slapping Contest**

I think Ali and Foreman in their primes could beat the fighters on team 2. Frazier would have trouble with them though and Lampley would rip off Cosell's hair piece. My pick is team 1.

I picked Team 1 just because of how Jim Lampley should never even be mentioned with Howard Cosell. Also I feel Foreman would probably KO Lewis even though Lewis is the more complete fighter. The best fight up there would be Ali vs. Holmes. Damn the battle to establish the jab between those two would be great. Frazier vs. Tyson would be great fight also.

I would maybe go for team one Ali would beat all of the other team and foreman would beat lewis and tyson but not holmes imo. And Cosell is better than Lampley.

honestly? I think Lewis could beat all of the first team. It doesn't make him a greater fighter he just has a massive size advantage and is proberbly the most complete fight on that list. Are we picking fighters from the same era or around the same era?
cause Norton could've replaced Cosell and Holyfield/Bowe etc could've replaced Lampley.

I'll take the easy way out and call it a draw.

I think Tyson could beat Frazier if Mike takes Joe out in the first four.
Tyson would lose to Ali and Foreman though.

Lewis could beat all of them and lose to all of them.
The match-ups against Ali and Foreman are quite even. It depends on how Lewis responds to Ali's speed and Foreman's pressure.

I think Lewis' best chance is against Frazier (keep Frazier off and punish Joe with the uppercut) as long as he fights with the safety-first style like he did against David Tua, not like he did against Mercer when he allowed himself to be pressured and traded punches.
Lewis faded down the stretch and won a close decision (some scored it for Mercer).

Holmes can also beat all of them but
he could be outworked by Frazier (Norton had success against Holmes in the later rounds),
could lose a decision to prime Ali (Witherspoon troubled Holmes a lot with his boxing)
and could get KO'd by Foreman (Holmes in his prime had a great chin and recuperative powers but a prime Foreman wouldn't let him off the hook like Shavers did).

I'd favour Holmes over Frazier and Foreman, the fight against Ali is a close one.

Lampley might be more knowledgeable (not by much) while Cosell is more honest (says what he feels).
