It sucks today! Wanna know why? All those alphabet organizations and weight classes prevents boxing from having superstars Joe Average can identify with. Too many champions so a guy wanting to see some good boxing watches a fight for some so-called championship heavily hyped by some tv-network and gets turned-off because he gets to see a mis-match or some mediocre fighters.

But if you know your boxing, you know which fights are good and thats definetely not always for a championship.
I disagree with you that boxing "sucks" today....

Sure the alphabet soup orgs have too many champions but like you said boxing fans will know who the top dog is, atleast now a days boxing isn't run by Frankie Carbo and Blinky Palermo.

I've been into "boxing" for about a year and a half, but have followed professional boxing for about a year (started with May 2007's Ring issue and then built my knowledge off their).

I don't even remember what my first fight I watched was. I know major one was De La Hoya-Mayweather, but I remember catching FNF's here and there.

Sucks was perhaps a little harsh. My point is that you cant ask an ordinary guy who the world middleweight champion is and expect to get the right answer. Boxing is no longer mainstream.

Been following boxing 20+ yrs since I was 11 - 12 yo. The biggest event I've been to which was my first was DLH vs Whitaker. Been to many fights since than including DLH vs Mosley I, Marquez-Pacquiao I etc.. With out a doubt in all the venues I've been besides ballroom events the best place to watch a fight card is the Home Depot Center tennis stadium, absolutely no bad seats in the house. Highly recommend that arena for anyone who hasn't been there!

Was boxing that mainstream in Denmark?

People place too much emphasis on things like that, back in those days people didn't have the many forms of entertainment we have today. Its true the newspapers would actually cover boxing and mainstream news, but back then everyone saw the same news and read the same paper.

True there is a lot more entertainment today, but the demand for entertainment is also significantly bigger today. My point is that all those alphabet orgs. make it hard for Joe Average to know whats snot and whats beard if you know what I mean.

since Mayweather-Gatti I have been a huge fan. Before that, I would tun in to watch Mosley, Tyson, or DLH.
