Yet as the number 1 contender Cotto should automatically get a shot at Mayweather regardless of who you think he should fight, only because he's already earned it. In your own words you stated that Cotto is the Number 1 contender. Since thats the case why should Cotto even breath the name Margarito when he just lost to Paul Williams? It would seem that Margarito would have alot more to prove then to simply get a shot at Cotto by beating a man he already put to tears. Don't get me wrong I'd love to see Cotto fight the winner of Cintron vs. Margarito. I think Cotto adding another belt to his list of accomplishments will only add to his legitimacy as a true welter weight champ. But what would be your arguements be next if Floyd continues to deny Cotto a shot? That he should beat Quintana, a fighter that he already destroyed? I don't understand the point of this thread, you stated you disagree with Floyd fighting Oscar, you agree with everyone that Cotto is the number 1 contender. Then who do you think Floyd should be fighting and please give one reason why it shouldn't be Cotto. I'm sorry but Floyd didn't fight Margarito when everyone was saying he was the most ducked man in the division theres no reason why Cotto should, especially after Margarito's loss to Paul Williams.

    Just my .02 cents
Why do you even bother to reply if your not paying attention to any posts??????

thats pure bs excuses if by some chance cotto doesnt get past margarito
the logical thing would be for floyd to fight margarito but then there will be more excuses and mayweather will probably sign up for a third fight with de la hoya after all if it makes money it makes sense

Cotto nut huggers talk down on floyd and his resume......ummmm you should slap yourself and realise cotto's resume doesnt touch floyds. The two biggest wins for cotto is a judah that mayweather outclassed in judahs prime and and old mosley that turned down a floyd fight when mosley was in his prime. And cotto had his hand full with mosley lol. Im getting tired of this cotto bull **** like he is god or something. He is a solid opponent for may but its ****** to say floyd is scared. Cotto has margarito waiting in front of him. If he gets passed margarito then start going for floyd but I dont think cotto will win a fight with margarito then all you cotto fans can stfu!
mayweather is smart he is gonna wait till tony and cotto beat the crap out each other if it comes down to a fight then i think margarito will win but if it comes down to a skilled boxing match i think cotto will....as long as cotto plays it smart he should get the win but then again we have a new margarito ...hes desprate and hungryier than ever!!!we dont like floyd cuz he wont take a real primed challenger at 147 he claims to be the best but has fought meadocre opponents who are past their prime.sorry bro but its the truth we dont hate him we just hate what he does cuz it dosent give boxing fans what we want to see ......its alright though cuz he is a boring guy to watch cuz of his peek a boo style one punch at a tyme!!!

What annoys me about the whole PBF/welterweight situation is that all the talk is about Cotto facing all these guys-Margarito,Cintron, Quintana, Williams etc. Why should Cotto do all the clearing out of the contenders?
PBF's probably sitting back thinking these guys are a waste of his time, hoping someone else ices Cotto so he doesn't have to.

I have all the respect in the world for Floyd as a fighter. But he currently sits atop the best division in the sport right now withut having having to prove he's the best.
We've seen him collect his big wedge against DLH, we've seen him beat the best Light-Welter in the world(Hatton). Now we want to see him prove he's the best Welter.

For boxing fans, Cotto-Mayweather's the match which poses the most questions that need answering.

whether Cotto gets past Margarito or not, Mayweather eventually has to step up to the plate and fight a welterweight. If you don't want to see PBF taking a competitive fight with someone in his own division. Anyone who doesn't want to see this isn't much of a boxing fan.

Take the fighter that Mayweather would matchup worst against, and you have what Cotto has in front of him in Margarito. So if Cotto loses that fight, it's going to suck when Floyd jumps after Margarito, a guy he matches up a lot better with. Which will leave Cotto in the dust without a chance to ever face Floyd.

Cotto needs to put a rematch clause in the contract if it's possible. Just incase.

Because Floyd isn't the one chasing an opponent and is the no.1 fighter, where as Cotto is the one who is looking to fight Mayweather and if he wants a shot he has to get past boxers like Margarito.

I'm Paying attention but you don't make any sense. So then clarify what you mean. Are you just saying that Mayweather will never fight Cotto because he is destined to lose to Margarito? What would give you that opinion? What weakness do you see in Cotto's style that makes you such a believer that Margarito will beat Cotto? Mayweathers position as the top welter is tenuous because he isn't fighting the top level of compition in his division. Your support of Mayweather is admirable, he's a great fighter, has a good solid record and solid opposition. But his occupation of the top position seems to be more from careful planning and opponent selection then from actually fighting top level opponents. If Cotto beats all the other champions as everyone suggest that he should, then who does that leave for mayweather to fight? How does he remain the top welter when all he's doing is fighting for big paydays and his bank account. All this time Cotto will be getting better but what about Floyd. All the playing around is going to catch upto him. WWE and the training to fight Oscar, then what another layoff? Mayweather is setting himself up to lose big time to Cotto. To bad I'm the only one that sees it.
