    Hopkins/Calzaghe... 5 years too late

Calzaghe is a good fighter... but... for whatever reason it seems he hasn't really made the big fights happen. This fight? Too late. I wish it happened five years ago... I wish he fought Jones... I wish he fought Johnson... I wish he fought Wright... even, Ottke. He never really left the UK... he never left 168. Sometimes if you want to make the big fights you have to do those things. He never did. At this point, blah... Hopkins is 43. Whatever. He has had a good career, but it could have been much better.

Maybe he'll fight Taylor or Pavlik next year... but, by then, I hope it's not too late.

I quit reading after you said you wish Calzaghe fought Ottke.

kind of a depressing thread coming from a Happy Boxing Fan!

I agree though, they should have fought years ago. But that doesn't mean the fight wont be great. They are both smarter now then they were 5 years ago. Look at it that way

Like I said in reply to this same post (or a very similar one) which you posted elsewhere, the fight should have happened 6 years ago, only Bernard backed out at the last minute. I'm sure Joe also wishes it had happened back then, and it would have, but Hops chose to run as fast as possible in the opposite direction the day before the contract was due to be finalized. He wanted his money doubling (to 6 million), but then, apparently, the fight he took instead gave him a smaller payday. I've tried to come up with logical reasons, but I can't put it down to anything other than fear of Joe Calzaghe.

I'm feeling generous today so that deems this post K worthy!

haha, he would have fought some nobody that nobody in the world ever heard about (except Wales) that's why he didn't take the fight.

And a fight 6 years ago would have ended in a Hopkins KO, mid to late rounds. Calzaghe has a much better shot at a 43 year old hopkins

Barack Hussein ***** is a member of some black supremacist church that claims that their only loyalty is to black people and the 'mother continent' of Africa.

Maybe he is being harsh, but certainly ***** is a worrying candidate if you are an American.

LOL. Calzaghe beats any version of Hopkins.

Calzaghe was the joke of boxing on both sides of the pond before the legendary Jeff 'I am Superman Jesus Christ' Lacy fight.

                    Now he's grossly overrated.
